it'll be a moneymaker for the city, w/o all the work required for an olympics...i'd be ok with this ----------------------------------- We have had more "moneymaker" ideas under this "financial wizard" mayor, and the city is still in a financial mess. Where did all the jobs and money from all these "moneymakers" go? Bloomberg is the Ralph Kramden of mayors, with all his big ideas.
but what would your objection be (other than the fact the Bloomberg wants to do it)..there wont be any need to build stadiums, etc...and in 1994 we set attendance records and did quite well.
and of course, it would be good for all the other US cities hosting games..
Who cares about Soccer in the United States ? The BBC and ABC tried to pump up "The Beckhams" it failed royally Soccer fans are mostly Eurotrash or idiots. I remember the Yugobacchi's going nuts tearing up Ridgewood in the 70s over the Cosmos (spelling)
This Mayor needs a 2X4 across his head for any more corperate construction improvements. Just like Robert Moses and his 1964World Fair In the end the only people who saw $$ money were the builders and maintanence contractors.
A couple can no longer go to a Ballgame for under $100. --Thats a dinner on Cafe On The Green with a bottle of wine !!
like i said, there will be no need for major construction.
and although you may not like soccer (i don't love it but can watch a game now and then), the world cup is the most watched sporting event worldwide. in 1994 we set money & attendance records and the sport has only become more popular since then. stadiums will be packed, sports bars will be packed. that means revenue for the cities hosting the games, with much much less investment than hosting an Olympics (which i was very strongly against).
here is some more detail about the bid, if anyone is interested:
Kingb, my objection is that everything this billionare business genius tries to make the city some quick bucks, only helps his rich cronies, and screws the average working New Yorker. I am tired of his moneymaking schemes, and I am tired of him.
Many major cities in the US are in a dire financial situation, it's not only NY/NYC. At least this is a start and maybe some day in the US or even NYC can host the world cup. As stated, it will be have great revenue benefit for whoever get's it. I'm not a soccer fan either, but revenue always helps.
It would keep the illegals happy - they can carry bags and cook food for the visitors. Maybe the visitors can stay here illegally after the games if they like here enough. Maybe the World Cup would be better staged in Buffalo or Porkeepsie where they need this more than we do.
Hosting a World Cup game at new Giants STadium would have very minimal costs for NYC. NJ would have to spend a few dollars on make the stadium FIFA happy. Why is anyone bitching about this?
Soccer fans are mostly Eurotrash or idiots. ------------------------------------- I'm born and raised in Queens and played soccer all the way through high school. Love the ignorant comment, Joe. It will only be a matter of time before the World Cup is back in the United States. FIFA sort of rotates the tournament between continents, so it is bound to be back on our soil in the near future.

Why your neighborhood is full of Queens Crap
