Happy Thanksgiving from the regulatory captured New York City Council
Friends,
Once again, Fontas Advisors traversed the five boroughs identifying the
City Council's top Thanksgiving chefs, hearing about their favorite
dishes, and learning much about their families in the process. The
result is our third annual collection of Thanksgiving recipes, the 2022
edition of Thanksgiving with the NYC Council. We love showcasing the diverse cultures and flavors of our great city and curating a Thanksgiving feast fit for the Big Apple!
Fontas advisors is a real estate lobbyist firm that's pushing for the shut down of Rikers Island. Betcha expected that shit. Happy Thanksgiving, your city of yes is fucked.

It’s Friday the 13th and Cuomo has upped his game
Enjoy these memes that began circulating minutes after the latest dictatorial edicts.

Happy Thanksgiving from Queens Crap!
It's the day of the year when we give thanks for all we have. And no one has more than this guy. And he's about to get even more at our expense thanks to two other guys who he spun like records. I guess we should be thankful, though!

More violations for house that went "boom"
From the Queens Chronicle:
A Thanksgiving Day explosion at a South Ozone Park house was caused by the misuse of a stove inside an illegal apartment, according to Fire Department officials.
“The location of the explosion was an illegally renovated setback apartment,” an FDNY spokesman said in an email. “The explosion was caused by misuse of a stove on the premises.”
According to city records released last week, the owner of the house was given two violations by the city Department of Buildings on the day the back of the first floor spontaneously exploded.
The house, located at 107-55 108 St., was illegally altered from a one- or two-family dwelling to accommodate four or more families, DOB records state.
An illegal canopy at the rear of the house was also placed by the homeowner, according to records.
The homeowner, identified by the DOB as Boonness Harrychand, is scheduled for a hearing at the Environmental Control Board, the tribunal body that administers penalties to people who violate DOB regulations, on Jan. 13.
Harrychand did not respond to requests for comments on the violations by press time.
The DOB did not respond to requests for comment on whether or not gas work was done inside the illegal units.

Giving thanks for his blessings
From CBS New York:
Despite not having cooking gas for more than a month due to a leak, 46 families of the Ravenswood Houses in Long Island City, Queens, will still enjoy a turkey with all the trimmings.
Brian McMichael, who grew up in the housing complex and just moved his restaurant to Long Island City a month ago, came to the rescue, WCBS 880’s Jim Smith reported.
“My heart goes out to these people, and some of them I actually know personally,” McMichael said, owner of Miriam’s Southern Cuisine.
Partnering with Fresh Direct for the turkeys, McMichael said he’s inspired by the values his mother instilled in him, the restaurant’s namesake.
“She would be so proud. She would just pray. Pray and be joyful,” he said.
His shop will also be whipping up an extra 30 meals for the food pantry.

Guess who's not coming to dinner?

Most New Yorkers wouldn't want Mayor Bloomberg over for Thanksgiving, a new Quinnipiac University poll finds. Just 42% of 1,287 city voters surveyed said they'd invite him, while 56% wouldn't.
The results hold across every ethic and racial group surveyed, except Republican voters, who split 49% to 49% on the question. At his best, 48% of white voters, 48% of Manhattanites and 46% of men surveyed would invite him. At his worst, just 35% of black voters, 36% of Staten Islanders and 38% of women would.
New Yorkers seem to like how Bloomberg runs the city, despite the social snub: The mayor's job approval rating is 13 points higher, at 55%.
