Holy crap - live across the street from that place! On E 83 St between 2 and 3 Aves. Formerly had a family living in the entire house! Now it violates all sorts of fire codes and is part of a wrenching change to the community since the 2nd Ave Subway was opened. All the old 5 story tenement buildings on the Avenues are getting ripped down for 20 + story monsters.
No sense of community as you would always see familiar faces. Used to go down to the coffee shop, get an egg cream, up to a bar. Shoe repair, dry cleaners, hardware store, anything you need. Gone replaced by salad bars, hot yoga, and empty stores everywhere. One big construction site. Supers are thrown out for cleaning services that hire druggies with bad teeth.
Yorkville is gone. It is now Dystopia.

Thanks for the deets, I thought it was the upper west side, I had a feeling it was crosstown though because I seen a lot of key storage master locks around the Upper East side/Yorkville, definitely a lot of airbnb activity and reconstruction sites of town houses like that one. Explains a lot why there are more barsteraunts than essential small businesses in that part of town.
The most shocking aspect to me is that young people think if they have a laptop and an "idea," they are entrepreneurs. It's cute that they believe sixteen people can get along in such tight quarters. I predict an implosion.

Reminds me of my summers in the hamptons 2000-02. If they don’t live like slobs and actually are working in towards a promising career I say good for them.
This is nothing more than a rooming house no matter how "cute" they think this is. The owner should be ashamed of themselves. How greedy can one person get!
Having done my share of research, it dates from the 1870s or 1860s if not earlier as it's on a bird-eye view of Manhattan from the mid-1870s. The date of construction is the date it was recorded on official records.
Once again yet another example of how the mainstream preservation community is focused on a narrow band of buildings - the local one is notorious for that. An index of every building should have been done and gems like this placed on the radar. Now the owner by asking for an absurd $18K obviously is pushing for a flophouse - the furniture was rented for that gallery - and intends to wear it out so that they can go after the neighbor and put in an out-of-character 10 story beauty into its place - there is a big push for getting rid of mid-block restrictions in Yorkville.
I see the usual whineybot socialists complaining about the free market economy again.

What would normally be a high-income earner living in this home is now 16 losers who are not going to be paying a dime in city income tax.
