Is it time for panic buttons at bodegas?

From PIX11:

Several bodega owners rallied in the Bronx on Tuesday, calling for panic buttons to help them reach police during emergencies.

The rally was held outside Wascar Guerrero’s deli on Shakespeare Avenue. Two weeks ago he chased away a group of teenagers with a metal pipe. Guerrero believes they were trying to rob his store.

“I have to protect me and my customers too," he said.

Guerrero says it took police more than half an hour to respond.

Folks forget how much crime is down from the late 80’s to the early 90’s. It’s only ticking up as the average cop does little police work these days. How can they with Federal monitoring,a PC who will throw them under the bus and a mayor who despises them.

That's actually a good idea. PIX neglected to mention that a deli owner shot down a robber holding him up at gunpoint a few weeks back.

These punks are making it real hard for the real estate speculators/fabricators to gentrify the Bronx. The bad days are here again.

More job opportunities? B/S! Where are the arrests? Everyone of them was filmed. There are towns and cities all over America who are looking for business owners with the talent of this gentleman, who can't get them. Go ahead. Give your life for a City that just doesn't give a damn about you! Let the Rats run it.

And another issue is the loitering for hours in front of certain deli's by mostly young men and include drug dealing. Several deli's in Jamaica are like this, especially on Merrick and the 110th area, a well known drgu/shooting area. Good bodega owners have to put up with so much crap in certain neighborhoods like Jamaica, like parts of Bronx, etc. Again much of this is to the lack of proper enforcement with quality of life laws for years and decades that just encourage such behavior.........................And maybe Amazon could provide these young kids with their supposedly 25,0000 jobs(over ten years, YEAH, right.

Also too many bodega's have so much advertisement, etc plastered all over their doors and windows making it hard to see what is going on inside these places.

But this is also what happens when you have too many people, not enough jobs or not enough good paying jobs. I grew up in a steel mill town that was a mix of white & black college educated and non-college educated and the majority of people had good paying jobs with great benefits, the majority also owning their own homes and putting their children through college (if that is what the kids wanted). And crime was low, not like many of these places it is barely on life support, closed up stores, abandoned buildings/homes, little tax base and high crime. This is basic economics that has been destroyed by corrupt corporations & elected officials, outsourcing of jobs, busting up unions, the widening gap between rich and poor (wiping out so much of the middle class), low-paying jobs with no benefits. Yes, automation has something to do with this but not everything, but there was no foresight into this.

In the meantime places like Amazon, Google, Airbnb, Uber and other "shared economy" companies are destroying the fabric of our society, while bringing NOTHING postie to the table.

In the meantime not only is the infrastructure in this city falling apart, it is falling apart all over the USA. SO where is this infrastructure bill, that has been spoken of, most recently by Trump on his campaign trail and was going to take place on day 1. I mean this is not a bi-partisan issue at all, this is actually making America Great Again. We need shit fixed in this country and we need people to have good paying jobs to fix it. More people putting money into the economy, a more better society we have.

"Is it time for panic buttons at bodegas?"

No, its time to let the cops do their jobs, mandate the courts actually punish offenders, and its time to stop pushing criminal justice "reforms" (aka let everyone out of jail).

It took the cops more than 30 minutes to respond because they want to make sure that all the nonsense is long over before they get there so that they just take a report and go on to the next one.

If the cops arrived while that was going on and the cops used any type of force to arrest these "good kids" breaking the windows of the bodega with weapons, there would be protests and outrage, complaints and lawsuits filed against the cop. There would be a press conference with an ambulance chaser lawyer, some always pissed off community activist, and the council member. They would demand the firing of the cops. There would be no mention about the actual crimes committed. The mother of one of these "angels" would be there saying her son is a Rhodes scholar, and didn't do anything, even though there is clear video footage of the incident. And the community would be on the side of the "good kid" who didn't do anything and is being "framed" by the police.

Then if anyone is actually are arrested some clown activist judge or bleeding heart jury would dismiss all the charges, and the "good innocent kid" will be back on the street again doing the same thing, but now have a few extra thousand dollars in lawsuit settlement money. The criminals are actually emboldened now because they know nothing will happen to them.

And for the cop that did his job? Well he will have to have to answer for a slew of baseless complaints and questioning that will drag on, and maybe loose vacation time for violating some minor procedure that has nothing to do with the arrest, just to satisfy the anti police activists. He will also have his name dragged through the mud in the press as if he is the true criminal.

So now that cop and all of his co workers just throw their hands up and say screw it. They will take 30 minutes to get there now, this is what the community wants. They will take a report and go home at the end of the night without controversy.

So you can put all the panic buttons in there you want. Calling the police is not the problem. 911 works just fine, its a panic button we all have right at our fingertips. These neighborhoods have to stop vilifying and complaining about the police when they do their jobs, and understand that we are dealing with criminals who need to be dealt with, many times with force. Its all one big joke in this city until YOU are the victim of a crime.

The courts need to stop the nonsense, and start punishing people with real jail time for acting like this. There needs to be real consequences for crimes, and neighborhoods have to support the police when doing their jobs, not complain about the police while praising the criminals.

The city is going down a dangerous path, this will continue unless we stop the stupidity and treat criminals like criminals again. Panic buttons won't change this, using common sense will.

Still one of the most dangerous jobs in the city next to being a cop or taxi driver.

Stun guns would be a great idea, too bad they are illegal in New York, would be a better alternative to hand guns because in many assault situations the assailant does not have a gun nor has the intent to kill but to injure or scare the victim, yet that is too much for libtard NYC.

Panic buttons? No.
An armed citizenry, yes!!

Don't be silly, they allow that, before long people start thinking for themselves, and then we have disaster.

Crime is big bussines for everyone. I hear that Bodegas owners make lots of $$$ when NYPD shows up for the Surveillance & Security Cameras. They already sold the footage and give the Police a broken tape or tell them it's broken.

AND it took the coward hiding behind ANON, so that no one knows who you are, no time to make a comment about nothing. Why hide. It is so easy to say bullshit, nonsense and any other idiotic thing when you HIDE.

Where did the word "bodega" come from? As a lifelong NY'er it was always a delicatessen for a store like that.Must be a Spanish word that everybody uses, not me though.

AGAIN, another idiotic comment from a coward hiding behind ANON. I have been extremely critical of the Democratic machine not only in Queens but New York as well. I don't side with someone becomes they belong to a certain party, I look at facts and what elected officials do, regardless of their party. AND you coward have no idea of my political standing or ideals.

AND if you have been reading Queens Crap, I have bashed MANY NYC Democrats who have fucked up shit.

Yeah, it's Trump no doubt. Probably tremendously Trump.

Joe I quite understand. You add much value to this Blog and I agree with you most of the time. You are great on local issues but I'm tired you blaming Trump for everthing under the sun. Most people in NYC vote Democrat not matter what their choices and I can tell you are different. I'm no coward hiding behind ANON so plese refain from the name calling it hurts your good stature . Have a nice day and don't feed the trolls....

And I am tired of people NOT only not be able to read, but comprehend it what they read. I never said this bodega issue has anything to do with Trump nor do I blame Trump for "everything under the sum". Exactly where do you even see this on this particular posting. AND so what if I blame Trump for everything, which I don't (especially local issues which has to do with our majority local Dem hacks), but even if I do, just get over it. Not feeding the trolls, but they need to be called out for their bullshit, their lies and things that people have not said. AND yes, Trump DID bring up infrastructure and yet we are not even close to having an infrastructure bill for the country. With a Republican President, a Republican House and Senate, passing such a bill would have be easy breezy. I mean he is the one who says he is the "deal maker".

But I am sure there will be the "I love Trump's anus and that I could live in it" and make another idiotic rebuttal under the name of ANON.
