New high school to be built in LIC

From DNA Info:

The city will construct a new high school with room for nearly 1,000 students in Dutch Kills, according to the Department of Education.

The new school, a four-story building set to include 969 seats, will rise at 40-11 28th St. between 40th and 41st avenues, a DOE spokesman said.

In addition to classrooms, the facility will include a gymnasium, library, cafeteria and kitchen, according to plans from School Construction Authority filed with the Department of Buildings Friday.

The school, which does not yet have a name, will be located right next door to the existing Newcomers High School and down the block from the Academy of American Studies, another high school.

Just ask and Jimmy will give it to you. How is it that he gets new libraries, schools, parks, while other council districts get crumbs or nothing ???????

Why waste thousands of square feet on a gymnasium when they can jog all the computer addicted fat kids around the block and up down 4 story staircases. Is a select team tossing a ball through a hoop that important for education? Its a crowded city, lacking classrooms and its 2017 NOT 1950. How about a whole music floor dedicated to Rap & Hip Hop study's ?

Whats is going on in New York City, was the water spiked with some brain eating virus and and now everybody is going crazy? -already brain dead NY voters included !
Its was a beautiful city, What a shame this all is.

Your comment made me laugh out loud but it's really not a laughing matter.

As the other Anonymous said, "It's all free for some but I pay higher taxes and developers get tax breaks." That's not a laughing matter either. Nor is it fair. We definitely need new blood in our political system -- politicians who are not in the back pockets of all these "developers".

The fact that we are a Sanctuary City means that illegal and legal immigrant children have become the ward of the U.S. taxpayers. New York City government officials know that we will and are being inundated again. It makes me cringe that they are building a high school with only 1,000 seats. Anyone with half a brain knows you don't buy a Volkswagen Beetle if you have six children with more on the way.

For crying out loud, Forest Hills High School, Bayside High School, Francis Lewis High School, Benjamin Cardozo High School -- to name a few --were all built to accommodate 1,000 students in the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s! All of them are now accommodating 3,600 students on three shifts!

What kind of education did our City Planners get? Can't they see that in the time it takes to build a four-story high school we will need four times the space they are planning for?

Wake up! It's the twenty-first century and we are bursting at the seams with more people than we can handle -- build with that in mind.

Either we need City Planners who can see the future and plan and build accordingly or we need serious immigration planning.

Perhaps we need both.

we need engaged citizens whose only purpose, it seems, is to follow a script they are given -
and is to shut people like you so we all can 'behave' and be 'polite.' until the public grows a few - nothing will happen - and what needs to happen is clear - you don't need to be a rocket scientist to identity or explain.
