Costa has an opponent

From DNA Info:

A local real estate agent who's been pushing the city to restore the long-shuttered diving pool in Astoria Park has jumped into the race for the neighborhood's City Council seat.

Kathleen Springer is running as an independent candidate for Council District 22 in the Nov. 7 election, challenging incumbent Councilman Costa Constantinides, who's held the post since 2014.

"I am basically running against the machine," said Springer, who grew up in the Marine Terrace apartments near Astoria Park. She also worked for decades in local real estate before selling her Steinway Street firm, Your Neighborhood Realty, in 2009.

"I sold or rented a house, or even commercial properties, on almost every block in Astoria," she said. "I know the neighborhood well, and I know a lot of people."

From what I have experienced with lying, hustling real estate people she's no beauty also. Shit and garbage all of them !

She sold or brokered a property on every street in Astoria? Well that perhaps that es'plains a lot of things like my friend loosing his storefront of 30 years

And who do you think put Costa into office - his behavior on that Steinway Mansion is a disgrace as is his desire to piss away $30 million on that swimming pool concert venue boondoogle.

Every time you talk to him about a problem he rocks back and forth on his feet talking rapidly and saying nothing. Even the Greeks in Astoria laugh at that simpleton.

Sure she it into real estate. But she challenges people like Costa and she deserves every vote to send hacks like him a message.

Reason enough right there to vote for anyone else...

Springer feels that the project is an example of the city's tendency to ignore the wishes of residents, fulfilling the needs "not of the community, but of the people in charge."

"I thought, do I have to be a councilman to have this heard? To represent the wants of the community?" she said.

If elected, Springer would call for "more oversight on the way money is being spent" in the neighborhood, she said.

Boy, she got Costa' number .... and my vote.

An Independent candidate beating a Dem incumbent supported by County? impossible!

Is she looking to capture the 'woman with a dog' vote?

Was that the only picture she had?

I have severe doubts but believe strongly that we need way more choices. Good for her for at least running.

She's in my district and I'd like to give her my vote but I wish she had more of a platform than the diving pool. Haven't researched it a whole lot yet but whenever she comes up that's the only thing I hear about her campaign.

What the hell does that sound like - a healthy American democracy? and how many are dead people?

- what you are a fascist? only in Nazi Germany, North Korea, the Soviet Union, Red China and Zimbabwe (and NYC) is someone elected with 99.7% of the vote.

And you party hacks complain about Trump? bah! he has nothing compared to you.

I have lived in Astoria for five years., but have been a Queens resident my whole life.I do not want to vote for Costa, but this lady lacks a platform. I got her flier in the mail last week, and the two major takeaways - 1) the astoria park pool 2) crazy dog lady. I love animals and I whole-heartedly believe that Costa has been sleeping on the Astoria Park pool, but his opponent brings NOTHING to the table. It's a shame we'll be stuck with Costa for another four years. Damn shame Peter Vallone hasn't thrown his hat in the race.

Springer,diving pool? Boing,you can’t make this up.

Her real estate background is no plus, but>>>>>
1) She opposes Vallone's idiotic performance space
2) Costa screwed everyone re Steinway Mansion and showed what a phony he is
3) We need to throw out lame incumbents.

She gets my vote.
