Kew Gardens to honor Rodney Dangerfield

From DNA Info:

A plaque honoring the late stand-up comedian and actor Rodney Dangerfield will be unveiled next week near a Kew Gardens building where he grew up.

The bronze sign will be first displayed during a kickoff party for the inaugural Kew Gardens Festival of Cinema on Aug. 4, beginning at 8 p.m., in a garden located between Austin’s Ale House’s Trackside Cafe and the Kew Gardens Long Island Rail Road station.

For a good laugh check out Karen Koslowitz discussing why a street dedication in Rodney's honor was rejected but the Ramones was accepted.

Good for the ale house, a great solid establishment. How can you not honor the legend. He was one of the funniest comedians of all time. And starred in 3 of the best comedies ever, the iconic and massively quoted Caddyshack, the underrated Easy Money with Joe Pesci ("I'm the man, I'm so bad I should be in detention", not a Rodney line but still hysterical), and the breakout blockbuster Back To School, which featured an hysterical scene where Rodney cheated on a lit test by hiring Kurt Vonnegut to write it and still failed the test.

My theory for why the Ramones got a street named after them, and it is wholeheartedly deserved, is because it appeals to the hipster demo that is the preferred constituent for neighborhoods by the elected hacks. The sad and ironic thing is that the mural, living up to this boroughs standards of neglect and indifference, has become damaged from the elements

And Karen, another hack elected, to quote Rodney, "and you're the inspiration for twin beds"

He was a Great Queensite. Hope the likeness meets the families approval. My recollection was that a previous statue or plaque of Rodney, somewhere, was not up to snuff and they complained.

Now tell me that Koslowitz isn't starting to look more and more like THIS dried-out movie character.

When will the plaque honoring Kitty Genovese be put on her former residence near the Kew Gardens LIRR station?

I give the plaque a couple of years before the MTA has to reclaim the property that sits behind the Alehouse to store equipment when they tear down the stores on the bridge. Maybe the plaque can then move to a cemetery outside the borough

I remember when that volunteer ambulance at Cross Bay Blvd. in Ozone park had a plaque commemorating Jack Kerouac when he lived in the apartment over it (It's mentioned in "On the road"). That plaque is gone now.

Yeah some Pizzeria owner had a brilliant idea if having some self titled artist from Italy paint what's best. Rodney was no beauty but the crap she painted looked more like that creepy Bukharian actor Jeff Goldblum' in "The Fly"

Not exactly something one wants to see with your Cannoli & coffee
