NYPD call boxes now in Forest Park

From DNA Info:

Joggers and cyclists frequenting Forest Park can now call for emergency help with the press of a button, thanks to several solar-powered call boxes recently installed throughout the green space.

The NYPD has already placed eight such boxes in the park, with nine more slated to be installed there by June 29, the department said.

The 500-acre green space is popular among local families and sports aficionados, but it has seen its share of violence in recent years, including a string of sexual assaults, several robberies, numerous car break-ins and a murder.

Following the series of sexual attacks, the 102nd Precinct assigned permanent patrols to monitor the park, and last summer, 14 cameras were placed in seven locations around the park, after Assemblyman Mike Miller and State Sen. Joseph Addabbo allocated $250,000 for that purpose in 2013.

Councilman Eric Ulrich, whose constituents frequent the green space, allocated $140,000 for the call boxes, hoping that they "will help to keep Forest Park visitors safe,” he said.

Assemblyman Miller also footed a portion of the bill, according to Ulrich's office.

The locations of the new call boxes, which include Metropolitan Avenue and Forest Park Drive as well as Woodhaven Boulevard and Forest Park Drive, were determined by the NYPD, officials said.

What bullshit, what good are they with nasty Myrtle ave traffic no police for miles. Just let people and morning joggers with no criminal history carry guns as our constitution allows.
2017 is a different world and the cops are stretched to the limit and to thin to save your ass.

These things are only good after something bad happens and the scumbags are miles away. We need guns, law & order back not call boxes.

I guess it's "back to the future" time once again - emergency call boxes are so 1977.

Never mind call boxes and cameras, we need live patrols in the park!

Bullshit is right, Anonymous. It's We, The People's tax dollars hard at work (again and STILL!), versus the defiant, 'Let Them Eat Cake' monarchy rule of Melinda 'Alley' Katz (and her henchmen-entourage at Queens Borough Hall), allof whom are hardly working (and, worse——singing and performing, no less, on stage at Forest Park, whilst collecting a government paycheck)!

But, face it, Queens peasants, our city, state and nation have not been a practicing, democratic republic since even before a criminal sociopath like Nixon infected publicly elected office. Everything is collapsing at once, and no one is listening to the ever increasing crime, violence, lawlessness, and outright anarchy in the streets, which is a 'Cause & Effect' that settled at the bottom BECAUSE of the overt and OPENLY PRACTICING corruption, graft, endless greed, lawlessness and government tyranny at the top of all City Hall and Albany corridors of epic, humanitarian fail.

And, just like the late, great George Carlin had exhorted (so very long ago), it's never going to get any better, when a cabal of corrupt, empowered idiots continue to usurp We, The People's Constitutionally guaranteed (but abrogated!), power and control, as their very, WILLFULLY derelict oversight continues to betray all pretense of public trust, ethics, integrity, accoutability and transparency, with a vengeful impunity that is unprecedented, to date——and, the public be eternally duped, bilked, scammed, scarred and damned!

Forget these Forest Park devices of worthlessness——ironically, the same vapid and insipid, criminal worthlessness that passes for honest, ethical, city government leadership (that leads by example).

If you are calling 911 it's already too late. Concealed carry for the win.

Use the call box and wait for the 102 Pct? You'll be a long time dead.

Totally reactive, what's needed are Cops Real Cops who actually want to do the job. Not some puke from Massapequa who could give a shit less about the city and it's citizens.

It's a known fact that rapists and pedofiles have a "lead" deficiency
Apply heavily and often
In other words shoot until the threat is neutralized

It's also a known fact that criminals commit a lot less crime after they've been shot!
We need national reciprocity
Why do marriage licenses and drivers licenses work across ALL State lines, but your gun license doesn't?
BUT having a gun is the right that's enshrined in our Constitution!
All the states should be like the dozen states RIGHT NOW that don't require a gun license!
It's true, there are more than 12 states that you don't need a license to CARRY a gun.
Our neighboring state of Vermont has been that way since the writing of the Constitution

I second that. Concealed carry is the only option these days.
The older experienced cops will even tell you that off the record, no more real cops and commissioners/

I'm not going to arm teenagers with guns to go to the park. That's stupid.

Conceal carry is fine as long as the person carries liability insurance.

The world, and Forest Park in particular, is not bad at all. Some of you people are so paranoid you probably shouldn't leave your house.

--as long as the person carries liability insurance.
Thats a big can of worms because then some America hating dictator like Gargoyle Anthony can ban guns by making the insurance mandate so high it would be cost prohibitive. So in effect you still have a ban.

Almost everybody in Texas carry guns, even 15 year old's working in Waffle House. No insurance needed.

I hope your speaking for your kids & family because this matter is not for you to decide, not one bit !!
Who the hell are you to speak & rule for everybody, some king ?
May I remind you this is America and we have a Constitutional rights and currently a good conservative loaded Supreme court to protect and obey those Constitutional rights as much as you liberals and neo-marxists may hate that fact.

Jeez whats wrong with people !!

Paranoid? Not according Clarence Thomas and Neil Gorsuch.

For those of us who work in marbled halls, guarded constantly by a vigilant and dedicated police force, the guarantees of the Second Amendment might seem antiquated and superfluous. But the Framers made a clear choice: They reserved to all Americans the right to bear arms for self-defense. I do not think we should stand by idly while a State denies its citizens that right, particularly when their very lives may depend on it.

From Monday’s opinion by Justice Clarence Thomas (joined by Justice Neil Gorsuch), dissenting from denial of certiorari in Peruta v. California:

You must be really stupid or something like that.

I think we needed these back in the bad old days; guess we're there again. Thanks Duhblazio.

"Conceal carry is fine as long as the person carries liability insurance."

you should have insurance when you exercise your first amendment right of free speech and say stupid stuff like blurting out fire in a crowded theater.
or even more stupid stuff like telling me to get insurance for my gun.
or one of the dumbest mandates in the world,
OBAMACARE
the government telling you that YOU MUST BUY A PRODUCT
weather or not you want it
and in lots of states there's only one policy to choose from
where are all those pro choice people?
why do all you people like to tell everybody else how to live their lives?

What's wrong with carrying liability insurance for a gun?

Don't you carry liability insurance under you home policy?
Don't you carry insurance for your car?

What happens if someone gets accidentally injured with your gun?
Would you rather be sued and have to defend yourself in court with your own money?

Anonymous said...

You would honestly allow a 5 year old to carry a hand gun?
A 10 year old? A 13 year old.

Nope, sorry. They aren't mature enough.

The frontal lobe controlling impulse control is not fully developed until 24 years old.

Um, how many insurance polcies does your job allow you to choose from?
I can decide on the level I'd like to pay at, but HR negoiates which company will be providing the coverage.

Unless, you are a millionaire you better have health insurance. Otherwise the hospital passes the cost on to other patients with inurance or they use tax payer money. Are you paying out of pocket for everything?

After Nancy Lanza's son shot about 26 kids with her gun she was sued and her home policy is paying out $1.5 million.

If you are not covered by some umbrella policy and your gun hurts an innocent person you are going to be in a world of financial ruin. It doesn't make sense not to voluntarily get insurance.

DUH !!! Because the government (including local governments) will get into that insurance, socialist it and impose all sorts of mandates & surcharges just like Obamacare.
The government needs to GTF out of our lives and respect the Constitution and quit kissing the EUs ass. America does not need to take orders from Brussels --that shitty little village in Europe.
It be OK if firearm insurance could be private-keeping the government OUT OF IT.

FACT: Gun control in Britain passed in stages, beginning just after World War I and continuing in a reactionary fashion with increasing strictness through the 1990s. Today the unarmed citizens of Britain suffer from highest ratio of violent crime in all of **Europe**. Germany is 2nd due to all the refugee's wanting to see all non Muslims dead or living under caliphate doctrine.

Nancy Lanza was an asshole for not having her no good son committed to a state mental institution before deciding to store guns (an AR-15 and a shitload of ammo included) where he get to them.

BTW she wasn't she sued because she was shot DEAD also !!
Families settled against the Lanza estate for $1.5M

Nancy Lanza is DEAD! She was the first victim!

Adam Lanza stole his mother's gun. A felony, Against the law!
He shot and murdered his mother! A felony, Against the law!
He put loaded guns into his mother's car and drove with loaded guns! A felony, Against the law!
He was carrying loaded handgun without a permit! A felony, Against the law!
He stole his DEAD mother's car. A felony, Against the law!
He possessed guns on a School property. A felony, Against the law!
He broke into a school. A felony, Against the law!
He shot and murdered many more people. A felony, Against the law!
He killed himself. A felony, Against the law!

An armed security guard or armed teacher could have legitimately stopped the senseless horror!
That is reality!

And what law in your utopian fantasy world would have stopped the deranged subhuman from such atrocities?

Bla bla bla, shill attorney, insurance agent pushing this stupidity around here.
Release the video of Lanza shooting anybody. Should be simple. As for any policy paying any money - release the policy itself dumbass.

The stupid people seem to be making the argument to have s gun and NOT carry insurance . How does that put you in a better position? For a few hundred dollars you can add a $1million to your home policy . Why wouldn't you do that ? Would you rather lose your home because of an accident ? Because these accidents do happen . Even the safest drivers get into accident . I'm dumbfounded that someone is actually making the argument to not carry insurance .

The point was being made that she had insurance that was able to be used to pay the victims.

Are you saying that the insurance was a bad thing? What is point you are making? If she didn't have insurance the victims would get nothing and that was is better? No mention was made about the armed security guard.

>>Nancy Lanza is DEAD! She was the first victim!

It seem pretty dumb to me that you wouldn't have insurance.
Why not? Nancy was negligent because she allowed a mentally ill son access to guns.

>>Bla bla bla, shill attorney, insurance agent pushing this stupidity around here.

You can read many conceal carry gun owner conversations online and you will see that many responsible gun owners have insurance.

I'd much rather pay for insurance than have a freak accident happen and lose everything.
It is amazing some of you argue against protecting yourself from a lawsuit. Before you attack someone maybe you should do your research.

i have a carry insurance as well
i also pay for quality training classes each year including NYS armed security guard training
the point being made, as i understand it, is there should be NO government mandate for insurance

This comment seems to overlook the complete obvious.

If the legal gun owning mother didn't allow her mentally ill son to have access to her fire arms this could all be avoided.
She was grossly irresponsible.

What seems to happen with insurance is it's always the people that can't afford to pay for their actions who don't have insurance. These people always think "well, it won't happen to me" or "i don't have any money so I won't have to pay anything".

>> the point being made, as i understand it, is there should be NO government mandate for insurance
