Wasn't a Garden World in Fresh Meadows? Wasn't a Horn & Hardart automat in Fresh Meadows ? As a kid when my mother was a teacher at St.Leonards Bushwick my grandparents were always dragging me to "Garden World" --then this automat with all the saved up nickles & dimes. I think the more expensive "good" dishes required brass tokens you had to get from the lady. To this day I hate cold cuts & sandwiches - blah !
Fresh Meadows is more than just the development and mall on 188th Street. It's Utopia Playground, Electchester, Brinkerhoff Cemetery, Francis Lewis High School, etc. All left out of this book.

Why your neighborhood is full of Queens Crap
"The difference between dishonest and honest graft: for dishonest graft one worked solely for one's own interests, while for honest graft one pursued the interests of one's party, one's state, and one's personal interests all together." - George Washington Plunkitt
The above organizations are recognized by Queens Crap as being beneficial to the city as a whole, by fighting to preserve the history and character of our neighborhoods. Great video, but... Fresh Meadows does not appear to have been as vibrant and diverse as it could have been. :~)
#1 - You mean when it was safe, clean, and quiet? Yeah, not allowed to have that anymore!

Thanks! This could be many neighborhoods in Queens into the late 60s. Great memories.
Joe,
Garden World is still going strong, it is located on Francis Lewis Blvd and 4rth Road. That is actually part of Flushing (Auburndale) I think.
That should be 46th Road. My bad.
SWEET. thanks. more of this please.
love music.
