This is so stupid, its a waste of space! 8.3 million people living in this city and they want to keep up a huge building which is NOT owned by the graffiti artists! If you want it kept up, then have the graffiti artists buy that WHOLE building or find someone that will sponsor the building for them! This big building can be used for a school or a nice QUALITY supermarket or a warehouse to bring some jobs in here!
It would be ideal if the artists owned this space. The walls could be kept as they are, the interior could be brought up to code, and LIC would still retain some character instead of being completely bulldozed under and replaced with glass high rises that bring loads of new residents with no new infrastructure to support them.
Sadly though, the developer owns it and legally can do whatever the fuck he wants, since everyone in politics is happy to rubber stamp more high rises for more under the table cash in their pockets.
I must say. The property has been owned by the same people for a while now. And well, if people want to keep it as is, they should buy it. Not tell the owners what and how to do it. Get together with a museum and buy the property. Not cause the owner to pay extra legal fees.
"Get together with a museum and buy the property. Not cause the owner to pay extra legal fees."
Oh, the poor landlord.
While I don't care for this building, it has become interwoven with the city's cultural life.
It is fair to challenge it's destruction and this may lead to a deal of some sort whereby an entity is able to buy the property and keep it for cultural use.
You sue a bastard to make him come to the negotiating table.
"Stonewall" (as you call him) Van Bramer received $10,200 from the Wolkoff family which owns the site. Just go to the Campaign Finance Board's website to confirm this fact.
Apparently he sold his vote for candy money. That's where this cowardly, unimaginative twerp stands on "culture"!
I's call him more of a Dannon Yogurt Cultural Czar!
Furthermore, why did Joe Conley (chair of CB2) stand alongside Mr. Wolkoff during Wolkoff's borough hall presentation.
I smell a very big stink! Does anyone else in cyberspace smell it too? It's burning up the fiber optic network.
RU enjoying your QC read C.M. Van Bramer? "Twitter" doesn't cover all of the criticism you'll be finding.
Uh, better let your cOS do the browsing while you take another Imodium.
Aside from gay issues, JVB doesn't seem to care care much about much else. He is really more of a Jimmy one note.
It looks like he uses his office for his own gain. Isn't that's what narrow minded, ultra conservative, venial politicians are all about?
Van Bramer strikes me as one of the most reactionary gay men that I know. You think that his more progressive lifestyle would give him a more liberal view of life and art.
I'm usually a champion for private property rights. In this case, the owners are looking for the government to change the zoning.
So I say if the Wolkoffs get a zoning change for this lot, then let that zoning change apply borough-wide to every private property owner with industrial property they want to turn into a residential tower.
If its good for 45–46 Davis Street, its good for all of Queens.
This was Monday ? Yes great success (like the La-Raza protest) in Washington because nobody lost a day of work. What aren't these vandals busted for trespassing, illegal assembly or loitering ?

Why your neighborhood is full of Queens Crap

Where is Mr Culture Chair Stonewall Van Bramer.
Any reps from our electeds or the community board?
Once again, unless you are a developer they are not interested in you.
Bring on DeBlasio!
This is privately owned property. Why are these people bugging out?

Because NYC is a world arts capital, and we don't take well to philistines.

You are not from NYC. You would mind your property if you were.

Litigation is not a negotiating tactic, unless you are Donald Trump. The only problem with the legal challenge is that it lacks a legal basis.
Actually...the daily count was in the thousands!
Hey, yo big dummy...
but I think that they DO want to BUY the building...
or someone else with real vision does!

BUT, MY POOR IGNORAMUS, IT DOES HAVE A LEGAL BASIS.
IT'S CALLED THE "VARA ACT" PASSED BY CONGRESS...YOU WANNABEE LAWYER.
I SUSPECT THAT THE LITIGATION IS FAR FROM OVER YET.
ARE YOU GETTING SCARED, YOU WOLKOFF TROLLS?
YOU'RE GONNA LOSE MORE THAN YOUR LUNCH IF THIS LAWSUIT CLIMBS ITS WAY ALL THE WAY UP TO THE SUPREME COURT!
Meanwhile, enjoy posting more babble.
It seems clear, after I went to that website, that Van Brainless would rather beg a dollar from a developer than serve his constituents.
Does that make him the NYC real estate industry's latest budding butt boy?

I'm gay and I'm certainly not closed minded.

The Wolkoffs painted over the artwork overnight. It's all over the web. And they had police protection while it was being done.

Bwahahahahaha! such a kidder you are!
@Queens Crapper: That just means the boys of the 108th were cooping on Jackson Avenue last night, instead of their usual haunts.
they painted over it last night
