Woodside sidewalk mystery

George the Atheist took photos of a wacky paint job on the sidewalk in front of a house at 37-61 61st Street in Woodside on Tuesday. On Wednesday, the paint was gone!
The possibilities:
1. A vandal came by with a gray paint can.
2. The artist couldn't stand his/her own oeuvre and destroyed it.
3. The authorities read the riot act.
4. The religious festival has concluded.

5) It is a new sidewalk - look, new concrete

I can't tell from the picture but it looks as though the orange and white paint vandalism was painted over with grey paint.

This is troubling. I don't like the idea that it's okay for people to paint on city sidewalks - particularly on parts where people step (as opposed to curbs, say).

Question: wouldn't these painted concrete surfaces be more slippery than non-painted concrete surfaces when they get wet?

This is simply a matter of public safety.

Painting on sidewalks by vandals - NOT ok.

the owner had to do this - the porch is private property and it has the same "artwork" on it . . . wierd sh*t.

I thought yellow-painted curbs were illegal and qualify for a fine from the city?

Who administers those fines and why don't they go out there?

Queens is missing out on a lot of revenue - illegal curb cuts and yellow curbs are rampant out here!

Judging by the photos, the sidewalk was replaced.

This is easy. There's a crazy guy who spends almost all his time painting the walls and sign posts in Woodside. You can usually see him on the weekends trolling the neighborhood, looking for walls to paint.

He painted the stone walls on Woodside Ave over the LIRR and BQE. He also whitewashed a cool Mets vs. Yankees 2000 world series mural under the LIRR on 39th Avenue.

This is definitely the work of this guy..

It's not a new concrete job. All the pavers were painted-over with gray paint.

Probably the first time in a very long time that I have been happy to see a concrete job on a Queens sidewalk. It usually means someone turning a garden into a parking spot in the front of the house.

I hear Banksy is in town this week. Perhaps he's discovered Queens.

Department of Transportation is the one that enforces painted curbs, I have made complaints about it before. But of course this being New York City, the complaint was "unfounded".
