Ulrich opponent appeared in racist, misogynistic, anti-cop rap videos

Councilman Eric Ulrich's campaign today released a video denouncing Mike Scala for his racist and sexist rap lyrics. The video follows news that Mike Scala or his supporters circulated a racially charged flyer in the Democratic Primary.

Scala's songs include racist lines such as "Me and rap go together like Spanish chicks and strollers" and lyrics that promote violence against police officers such as "Every time these cops talk, I wanna break their jawbone."

Mike Scala was endorsed by the Queens Machine. This makes somewhat of a trifecta - Elizabeth Crowley, who has a 16 year history of homophobia and is okay with her campaign workers verbally abusing women was also endorsed by the Joe Crowley clan. And let's not forget that an indictment didn't get in the way of them endorsing Ruben Wills. And they love Bill de Blasio as well...

Flushing, Bayside and Little Neck in 1984

"I took it in September 1984 when I lived in Little Neck and went on a visit to my parents house in Flushing.

The video starts on Northern Blvd. and Marathon Parkway in Little Neck, and goes through Bayside and into Flushing. We turned left on Murray Street, then left on 41st Avenue where my folks lived.

The video isn't high-definition, because it was recorded on VHS tape and then it took about 20 years before it got transferred to digital. But you'll see lots of stores and buildings that don't exist anymore - a lot of things change over 30 years! I hope it brings back some good memories for you. Enjoy!"

"I took this video in September 1984 when I lived in Little Neck and went on a visit to my parents house in Flushing. Afterwards, we turned left from 41st Avenue onto 154th Street, then right onto Northern Blvd. The video ends at Springfield Blvd. and Northern Blvd." - Robert Ristelhueber

Amazing aerial footage of NYC

First featured by WPIX:

They’re awe-inspiring sights of New York City that rival any video game or Hollywood blockbuster out there, and they were captured by Bronx photographer and drone enthusiast Victor Chu.

From over the iconic Brooklyn Bridge to the famed Pepsi-Cola sign in Long Island City with of course, a pit stop at Yankees Stadium.

The sights in Chu’s “Ultimate Aerial Video of NYC! (Manhattan, Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island) – DJI Phantom 2” on YouTube, will give any New Yorker goose bumps.

The extreme project took several months of shooting and editing this past summer with what Chu says were plenty of close calls.

In what’s considered the most incredible shot, Chu flew his drone through the Unisphere at Flushing Meadows Corona Park, all while complying with drone rules and regulations issued in the City of New York.

Happy Friday!

A Murray Hill video tale

Hello! I bid you well.

My name is Julian Kim and I am a filmmaker who grew up in Flushing, Queens.

I would like to share my latest work with you entitled "Flushing Web Series".

It's funny how this whole thing started. I was walking down Roosevelt Ave one Monday to take the 7 train, but Monday morning's trash day. So you can only imagine what the smell is like: with all the crap and garbage from various restaurants lined up right up against the curb mixed in with their sad attempt to cover the smell up by pouring hot diluted soap water... The commutes on Monday mornings always are the worst. I grew up in Flushing my entire life but I still can't get used to the smell.

So I realized then how much I hated Flushing. I hated everything about Flushing and everything about Queens. Starting with the smell, loud music, hobos, and how crowded it gets with obnoxious people who either walk really slow or walk straight toward you for that annoying shoulder-to-shoulder collision. Oh, and all those dead animals on display for people to eat...

But at the same time, I realized this is also my hometown. Yes, it sucks (a lot) but every corner here in Flushing has a story of its own. Every piece of garbage probably has a story, too!

I wanted to highlight parts of Flushing and this would be my humble attempt. And I also humbly ask if you would just take your time to watch it and share your thoughts on your blog and Facebook page! You can be real and honest - I just would love to hear back from fellow Queens natives about the whole series!

Thanks and hope you have a good one!

Elmhurst protests Pan Am; DHS takes kids to dinner & a movie

From COMET Civic:

Videos of Pan Am homeless shelter protest:

In the meantime, the DHS took the kids to a movie and then to a restaurant that had been shut down by DOH a couple of times in the past few years. Your tax dollars at work!

This field trip was supposedly to protect them from "hatred". If you can find the hatred in the above photos/videos, then please let me know. I think the only people hated here are the owners of the Pan Am and leaders of DHS who lied to the community about their intentions.

I'm sure it's also a coincidence that the spot they were taken to is not only Asian, but a hop, skip and jump from the proposed Glendale shelter?

Bye, bye Blockbuster

From the Daily News:

On a recent Saturday evening, drivers pulled off Union Turnpike and into a strip mall in Kew Gardens Hills, lured by a banner that blared, "Store Closing."

They rummaged through stacks of discounted DVDs, video games and even candy. With bags full of 99-cent movies, the crowd helped to empty out the Blockbuster Video, an area mainstay, before its closing this week.

It's a scene playing out across the country - and at several stores in Queens - after the Dallas-based chain filed for bankruptcy in September.

Queens residents will no longer be able to rely on Blockbuster to plan family movie nights as stores are closing in Astoria, Bayside, Forest Hills and Howard Beach, among others.

Great, those stores tend to be large, so that leaves a lot more room for Queens Crap.
