As we all know from the past decade since it was implemented, the Vision Zero program to bring down traffic accidents and fatalities initiated by the abominable Mayor Bill de Blasio failed in its mission to do just that as more people got maimed and killed since it’s implementation as the years went on and exacerbated to new extreme numbers during the last two years of the pandemic. Well, look no further on why Vision Zero as well as enforcement and punitive charges traffic violations continue to fail New Yorkers with the condition of this red light traffic camera post; which has been violated with those obnoxiously ubiquitous Cash for Cars advertisements that are always illegally posted on traffic and electric utility poles all over the five boroughs.

 

 

The leaning camera of Greenpoint

I came across this [fake] red light camera at Meeker Ave and McGuiness Blvd this past weekend.

Google Street View from last September shows the camera in the same position.

While I'm not a booster of red light cameras, I gotta wonder why the City has allowed this camera to stay like this for so long. If they don't want to fool people anymore, they should at least remove the eyesore.

Donut runs are not an excuse!

NYPD brass is cracking down on cops who go through red lights while on patrol by forcing officers to fork over $50 fines if they get caught on camera and can’t prove they were on legitimate police business.

A Manhattan cop said he was hit with a summons three months ago after he ran a red light to stop a vehicle with a potential drunken driver.

The motorist was sober but tired, so no ticket was issued, and the cop didn’t make a note of the stop in his memo book, he said.

When the precinct received the red-light summons, his supervisor grilled him — then ordered him to pay the fine.

“They didn’t believe me,” the cop said. “Where was the proof? I had to pay it out of my own pocket.”

His union blasted the policy.

Tagging the bicycles

From the Daily News:

"Messengers and folks who work for restaurants tend to be the worst [traffic law] offenders," said Councilman David Greenfield (D-Brooklyn). "They have a financial incentive to be reckless drivers. ...It's the Wild West of transportation."

Greenfield is introducing legislation today that would force businesses that hire cyclists to apply for license plates for each employee's bike.

The companies would also have to show proof of insurance - to cover injuries to their rider and any pedestrians they may plow over.

Any business that fails to acquire the city-issued tags would face a $1,000 fine - and cops would get the green light to seize the scofflaw bikes.

"License plates are the great equalizer," Greenfield insisted. "If you have a license plate, you're responsible. Everyone knows who you are. They know who's in charge and we can track you down."

License plates, he said, could someday allow cops to bust bad bikers with red light cameras.

NEW SPY CAMS TO STOP TRAFFIC

Hit the brakes!

Fifty new red-light traffic-signal spy cams are en route toward a major intersection near you, state officials said yesterday.

The cameras, which snap the license plates of vehicles that run lights, are expected to generate $6 million a year for the city through $50 fines, but officials stress they'll increase safety.

The new cameras will bring the city's total to 150.
