50 Cent finally has his Jamaica concert

From the Daily News:

Rapper 50 Cent went back to his roots Saturday, performing for hundreds of thrilled fans in his old Jamaica 'hood and even gave a shout out at the police.

Screams of "I love you Fitty" echoed around the playground next to Public School 40 in Queens as NYPD officers kept an eye out for trouble on the roof of the school and nearby housing complex.

50 Cent, who was born and raised in South Jamaica, Queens, was the headline act at the community festival which had been scheduled for August but was cancelled because of security concerns surrounding the rapper's appearance.

"Next year I'm gonna get to do it on the actual date that I want, when they see this as a successful event they won't give me such a hard time next time," he said.

50 Cent cancels Family Day

QNS. FITTY FEST IS OFF
By CHUCK BENNETT, NY Post

Fitty wasn't going to let anyone party without him.

The foul-mouthed gangsta rapper canceled the entire "Family Day" neighborhood fair he planned over fears that his very appearance would spark violence, his manager said yesterday.

"We are postponing it and working it out with police," said Chris Lighty, Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson's manager.

The event was scheduled for tomorrow at the PS 40 schoolyard in Jamaica, Queens -- just blocks from the spot Fitty was shot in 2000.

The Post reported on Aug. 17 that cops worried that they lacked the manpower to keep the peace at the event.

Originally, Fitty was going to perform but later said he would just make an appearance. Regardless, cops worried that a punk out to make a name for himself or someone with a grudge might try to shoot him.

Rap concert has cops concerned

From the NY Post:

Superstar rapper 50 Cent is secretly planning to stage a free concert in a schoolyard near the Queens projects where he grew up, and where he was nearly fatally shot -- sparking a wave of fear in the community and prompting cops to prepare for the worst.

"We can't control the area," warned one law-enforcement source, noting that the performance on the grounds of PS 40 in Jamaica will be part of "an outdoor event -- people could walk in from anywhere."

"Someone's gonna try to make a name for themselves," another worried source added. "They're gonna take a shot at him, and they're either gonna hit him or they're gonna miss him and hit some poor, innocent kid or grandmother."

The sources said an army of cops is planning to shut down a massive, 20-block area around the South Jamaica Houses for the "surprise" Aug. 30 concert, which is expected to draw about 10,000 people.

Fitty, who is scheduled to perform at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey the night before, is set to make at an appearance at the neighborhood's "Family Day" on the school's grounds at around 5:30 p.m. He plans to bring celebrity pals with him, the sources said.

However, Bloomberg swears 50 Cent will not perform.
