Tom tops Mazi

Former U.S. Rep. Tom Suozzi (D-Glen Cove)  has defeated Nassau County Legislator Mazi Melesa Pilip (R-Great Neck) in the special election to replace disgraced former Rep. George Santos in New York’s third congressional district.

As of press time, the Associated Press had Suozzi winning by a margin of 55% to 45%.

The third district covers a portion of northeast Queens, as well as the entirety of the Towns of North Hempstead and Oyster Bay. With Suozzi’s election, he is now the sole Democratic congressman on Long Island, with the three other seats being held by Republican Reps. Anthony D’Esposito, Andrew Garbarino, and Nick LaLota.

“The only way we’re gonna be in trouble is we let ourselves continue to be divided from within,” Suozzi said in his victory speech. “So this whole campaign has been about how do we communicate to people that we can be better if we work together to try and solve the problems we face in our country, and that’s the message.”

Suozzi held this seat from 2017 to 2023, and comfortably won election to it three times – perhaps most notably when he defeated the then-unknown Santos in 2020. However, Suozzi’s elections to the district were prior to the 2022 redrawing of the district’s lines. With Santos’s large margin of victory over Democrat Robert Zimmerman in 2022, and Suozzi’s slim margin of victory over Pilip, the new district, which now includes portions of southeast Nassau County such as Levittown and Massapequa, may be more of a swing district than it was under Suozzi’s previous tenure.

“I want to say how proud I am of all of you,” Pilip said in her concession speech. “Yes, we lost but it doesn’t end here. I called my opponent to congratulate him. I want to thank chairman Cairo for his hard work. We are not going to give up. We are going to bring common sense to government.”

Don’t be surprised if we see illegal aliens set up shop in northeast Queens, posh Manhasset, and luxurious Brookville.

As I said, It seems Republicans are clueless, too close to ancient religious bullshit and want to lose.
Republicans chose the worst candidate they could possible can.
Mazi had no experience, could not articulate on anything she said, had no "fire". Her English was so bad she was also not understandable to most people.
She not only got in involved with abortion but was also hanging around with a bunch of religious lunatics like Peter King and his and his catholic church Hibernians.
Once in office, Mazi wasn't going say shit against massive immigration.

The snow storm didn't help, allowing the early ballets who are mostly democrats control the tally. I live in Manhasset, and voted against the socialist Sanctuary Suozzi. Suozzi was prepared and had sidewalks shoveled sent busses over to the big sec 8 towers, and Spinny Hill sec 8 barracks in Great Neck to bring all those democrats to vote. Hot Chocolate, Coffee and cake too.
Mazi didn't do this.

Anyway the real election comes in November, Republicans better wake up and distance themselves from the Catholic church and abortion matters or they will lose more seats.

The majority of us did just that by voting for your opponent.

Who thought the outcome would be any different ?

They were BOTH Democrats so there was no choice. His opposition was a registered Democrat. This was no win, it was a giveaway.

Congratulations to all the good people in Nassau County and parts of Queens who elected Suozzi! He is now going to do whatever he can to raise your property taxes by 45% while in office. Since none of you seemed to remember nor care when he was Nassau County Executive, you deserve this as you didn't learn your lesson.

Candidate quality counts. More than issues. Republicans have much to learn from losing. And, the lessons will continue.

This was inevitable, she is a lunatic and brings a middle east attitude of politicking to the U.S. Like Rajukumar has this bullshit I'm here to help and then does nothing.

Nobody seems to want the right wing, Putanist Trump Turds anymore.

Yep, he's in favor of building a section 8 on every street too!!
This socialist bastard made a mess in Glen Cove tearing down old buildings, commercial space and replacing them barracks when he was mayor.

Anyway she's from Great Neck 1 mile from me here in Manhasset and never seen her ONCE! Mazi only gave a shit about Jewish stuff, mostly crap up at the synagogue and Jewish old age homes. I never seen her at one single event for non Jews.

Mazi was a democrat, this district had no choice. Republicans made a huge mistake.

They are already in parts of northeast queens and have Been there for years. A few years back they found MS13 graffiti on I think it was a church door or something. But yes, it is full of illegals. My daughter used to go to school with them or their children. And recently, I have seen homeless tents set up near alley pond environmental center and the golf course over there on northern blvd. It is becoming very bad around where my parents live in Bayside. It looks more like a third world dump now than ever before and my parents have lived in the neighborhood for 41 years.
