The CIty Of Yes will pay big money for more little housing

 NY Post

The City of New York is getting behind the tiny-house movement big time.

In an effort to create more affordable housing, a few lucky borough homeowners will be granted hundreds of thousands of dollars to construct accessory dwelling units, or ADUs, on their properties.

Last Tuesday, the New York City Department of Housing Preservation & Development announced the launch of its Plus One ADU pilot program, which will fund the creation of additional living space for growing and multigenerational families.

The program will provide up to $395,000 in financing to a maximum of 15 single-family landlords so they can build ADUs “such as backyard cottages, garage studios, attached in-law suites, basement apartments, and attic space conversions” on their land, according to a press release.

By helping existing residents expand their square footage, the city hopes to help seniors “spend their retirement years in their chosen neighborhood,” enable in-laws to move in with young families, make space for children returning from college and otherwise help ease the current real estate crisis without “significantly changing existing neighborhoods.”

Other program targets include “seniors who need space for a caregiver, a multigenerational household who want separate living spaces, or young parents with a little one on the way,” Mayor Eric Adams added in the release.

The money for the program comes from a $2.6 million state grant for “crafting community-centered solutions to encourage low- and middle-income homeowners to create or upgrade good quality, safe accessory dwelling units.” The city plans to put in almost as much of its own money, the state’s Homes and Community Renewal Commissioner RuthAnne Visnauskas explained.

“ADUs financed through the program will become safe, habitable and potentially rent-restricted units that will help homeowners generate additional income and support long-term homeowner and neighborhood stability,” the press release noted.

I remember when all the small-minded assholes yelled that Trump was a "racist !!" because he wanted to build a wall to stop the catastrophe of uncontrolled migration into our local communities that would displace already struggling poor people and increase competition at the bottom.

It's mightily hard to thrive in reality when you're detached from reality.

Does this idiot mayor not realize how much more in extra city services this will cost? Building more apartments means more people which equals more garbage pickup, more kids going to school, more people who will need bus and subway services, more police, more firemen, ect. If you can't fit into nyc "properly" like buying your own house or renting your own apartment, then you shouldn't be here to begin with. There are 49 other states plus DC to move to or you can go to upstate ny where there is way more room. This mayor should tell these people to take a walk and deport all illegals.

Keep voting for Democrats. 20 years of the safe city under Republicans is long gone.
It was so awesome back then; 1993 to 2013.

@Anonymous post 16: You make some good points and I have some points to add to them.

"Does this idiot mayor not realize how much more in extra city services this will cost?"

Anyone else notice how much our political and bureaucratic classes hate us? How much they and their little NGO/CBO/Non-Profit slavies act like abusive parents with the constant criticism, scolding and beatings and it's all our fault they act this way. We're so bad, we own cars and houses and we must be ashamed of ourselves and accept being punished. Then every debasement, degradation and lowering of our standard of living is done for our own good and our Betters are genuinely annoyed if we're not slobbering in gratitude to them for it. However, I digress.

Anyway, Adams may or may not know but either way, he doesn't care. Adams, like almost every other politician is now simply a manager hired to implement the agendas and policies created by PlaNYC, C40, Safe Cities Network, Resilient Cities Network, the UN Sustainable Agenda (Agenda 21, Agenda 30, etc), and other so-called "green" agendas. They all mostly say the same things with a few additions according to which stakeholders (corporations, banks, investment firms, billionaires, UN and government bureaucrats) put in the most funding for them. Both parties hierarchies ensure that only people who are on board with these plans are allowed to run for office. Our political class have decided Phaemon's Dog was right.

"Building more apartments means more people which equals more garbage pickup, more kids going to school, more people who will need bus and subway services, more police, more firemen, ect."

Ah, but that's only the beginning of this dystopian nightmare. The better aspect of this managerial wet dream. Poor sanitation, which will be inevitable with such high population density, will lead to diseases like typhus, dysentery, cholera and legionnaire's disease making a spectacular comeback which will rip through these packed sardine can micro apartments and pods like a scythe. Oh, and let's not forget that old time fan favorite, tuberculosis, which will by then have mutated into even more antibiotic resistant strains. Or maybe we'll see Hansen's disease (leprosy) and bubonic plague make a comeback with enough mass third world open immigration. Wouldn't that be a hoot.

It'll all be lumped under the rough rubric of covid as officially, this virus is so evil that it ate all the other viruses and bacteria and is now the only thing anyone ever gets sick from. This way, the peasants don't associate the deaths of family and friends with government policy intended to make them sick.

And why? Remember population control is important to our managerial overlords so yearly deaths in the tens or hundreds of thousands from disease will fulfill their passive-aggressive democidal dreams of a world population of 500 million to 1 billion of only the ruling class and elite "beautiful people". Can't have too many of Yuval Harari's useless eaters and useless people gobbling up precious resources and taking up space that must be reserved for our Betters.

Before that, next up is welcome to 2030 where we will have no privacy, may have net zero electrical power for a few hours a day, will not be permitted to stray any further than allowed by our 15 minute city masters, own nothing and be happy.

This is no conspiracy as these plans are all made and discussed openly and signed onto by our elected officials amidst media fanfare. Nor is it a theory as it is all plainly written down for all to see if they make the slightest effort to look for themselves.

Sorry to run so long on this blackpill but unless there are some drastic changes, most, if not all of this will be our or our children's fate.
