Letter grades for food carts?

From DNA Info:

A Queens councilwoman wants food trucks and carts to display letter grades, just like city restaurants.

Karen Koslowitz introduced a bill in the City Council Wednesday, which she said would require the city’s Health Department to conduct inspections and give food carts and trucks letter grades of A, B or C.

“You go to a food cart, and you really don’t know its sanitary condition,” Koslowitz said in a statement. “Our current grading system works well for restaurants, and I believe it would be good for the City’s food carts as well.”

Letter grades have been given to restaurants in New York City since 2010.

Another money grab.

The council needs more of the hard working peoples' money to waste...

A majority of these street food carts should be condemned outright. They are disgusting.

I have to admit, it's not a bad idea: the food carts have already done significant damage to the brick and mortar food establishments' revenue stream, which are unfairly subjected to far greater scrutiny from DoH and DCA. Let the food carts play by the same set of rules in this out of control bureaucracy.

Sure why the hell not. The city council has a license to steal anyway...

I always ask for a TB test, STD screening and a stool sample before I buy from a cart vendor!

Money grab is right. And this enforcement will be selectively doled out to the pictured hot dog carts and halal wagons, for they are mostly run by immigrants, and not the designer overpriced fast food trucks the hipshits and yuppies dutifully wait on mile long lines for.

How can any cart with no running water or toilet possibly be sanitary? The NYC hot dog cart has always been a 'buyer beware' sort of thing and every New Yorker knows this. They don't call them 'dirty water dogs' for nothing.

+++++++++++++
the hipshits love that halal spicy rat garbage. those carts leave a big greasy spot on the sidewalks and make a stench that is a block long. have fun sitting outside in your garden on a nice summer evening when they are around the corner.

and yes, have heard a number of immigrants tell me they would never eat from those carts. sad day in american when good and bad is determined by snowflakes and immigrants.

Why not issue our own letter grades (D's and F's) to petty politicians and their petty proposals?

We could issue our letter grades in the form of voting these useless hacks out of office.

The progressive (communist in other words) mayor/dictator in charge found an other source of revenue to finance his failed ideas, illegal immigrants, criminals and other selected garbage. Add the 5c per bag fee, aren't commies great?
They are all mentally disturbed, enemies of the people, of this country, the world really.

Just as some people eat from some of these foul, unsanitary, typhoid infested carts, accepting food from people who have not bathed in days nor washed hands, most would continue with or without the foolish letter grades.

And just as they would continue to support these establishments they would continue to support and reelect the entrenched establishment useless politicians...

Absolutely needed. Also delis and 7-11.

Lots of Korean delis skimp on refrigeration which is why their food spoils easy.
