Bayside mansion is a real doozy

From Curbed:

This is a house in Bayside (fittingly, the Queens neighborhood that once gave an architecture award to this building). It is, according to the listing, "Newly Custom Built Contemporary With Finest Materials." It is...something. Rather than try to describe it as a whole, we're just going to list some of things in it:

· many white leather couches
· a recording studio
· a bedroom with multicolored recessed lights
· a bedroom (the same bedroom, in fact) with three fur throw rugs
· an elevator
· whatever that foyer is
· probably eight quarries' worth of marble
· a seven-by-seven grid of windows that takes up the entire middle third of the facade
· a Dali-esque melting clock

This house is asking $6.5 million, and by god, it should get it.

It's a beaut! Make no mistake-- some Russian criminal will buy it (with bags of cash) and install his huge extended family and be very pleased.

Who wants to live among 3rd world drek??????????????

Bayside used to be part of Long Island's Gold Coast. These day's its mansions are either plain stucco walls or gaudy Italianate-Mediterranean tract placates.

I believe the house is in Bayside Gables, certainly not the "home of 3rd world dreck". Do a little research before you post.

This is the reason why nobody can afford to live in Bayside anymore. This sort of stuff is allowed to go up and be sold for millions and millions of dollars-pushing the middle working class out of Bayside. My father was lucky enough to buy a house in Bayside in 1982 for only 60k...these days nobody who is a hard working American citizen can afford to live in any nice neighborhoods in nyc. It really sucks! The American dream is definetly dead especially in nyc.

people can live in bayside, just more affluent people. nothing wrong with that. things change. neighborhoods change. there is no part of queens i would want to live anymore. you know what i did? i moved to a place thats more suitable for me. not worth the fight. life is short. don't be like the guy taking pictures of garbage in jamaica every weekend complaining how nobody does anything. jamaica has been a dump for 40 years. Bayside hasn't been the same in 15. enjoy the time you have left. let the new people destroy queens and move on to greener pastures.

Anon #5, when has the free-market NOT existed? 1982 was just before the surge of wealthy foreign buyers pouring their cash in to real estate if I recall. You can't do anything about it. I love it how people think that property owners who sell can have a legislative cap placed on their profit.

Bayside Gables is just high end crap.
The corporation decides what can be built.
There are no deed restrictions that run with the land...only the corporation.
They have the legal ability to impose architectural limits, but apparently, have chosen not to.
This is another Malba full of neo palazzos inhabited by wannabee dukes and duchesses.
