Looney lovebirds reunited

From the Daily News:

Ousted lawmaker Hiram Monserrate planted a kiss on his girlfriend Tuesday after a Queens judge gave the looney lovebirds the OK to see each other again.

The order of protection that was imposed after Monserrate roughed up Karla Giraldo remains in place - but for all practical purposes Justice William Erlbaum's ruling leaves them free to resume their rocky romance.

"They can do anything they want to do," said Monserrate's laywer, Joseph Tacopina. "They can be together. They could marry. Go to dinner. Do whatever they like to do.

"The only thing they can't do," Tacopina added, "is the obvious."

The obvious being harassing or attacking Giraldo.

Monserrate smiled at Giraldo when he arrived at Queens Supreme Court and she beamed back at him.

Dressed in a tight-fitting blue pants suit, Giraldo pleaded with Erlbaum to lift the order of protection "because I love him."

"I want to be with him," she said. "And I want to continue to be with him."

Erlbaum later asked Giraldo if she was sure.

"Yes, I'm a woman, I am 31 years old," she said. "And I can make my own decisions."

Giraldo, who said she and Monserrate planned to marry before his arrest, was handed a limited order of protection to sign.

She did - with a giggle. Then she and her beau walked out of the courtroom hand-in-hand.

Hiram wants to see Karla

From the Daily News:

Ousted lawmaker Hiram Monserrate wants a judge to lift an order of protection and let him see the girlfriend he was convicted of roughing up two years ago.

The disgraced senator will be in a Queens courtroom Tuesday to tell Justice William Erlbaum he shouldn't be banned from getting close to Karla Giraldo.

Last year, Erlbaum found Monserrate guilty of misdemeanor assault but spared the former cop a more serious felony conviction in an alleged slashing attack on Giraldo.

Queens prosecutors say Monserrate shouldn't be near Giraldo - who testified in court that Monserrate didn't deliberately hurt her.
