From the Daily News:
The Queens beauty slashed in the face by ex-state Sen. Hiram Monserrate is moving on — she has a new baby and is poised to drop her lawsuit against the city claiming cops made her falsely accuse the disgraced politician attacked her in a jealous rage.
Karla Giraldo appeared in Brooklyn Federal Court after parting ways with the lawyer who filed the bizarre suit in 2010.
Giraldo was dumped by the lawyer who is owed $73,500, and complained to a Brooklyn judge that no one else wants to take the case.

When will these people go away for good?
From the Daily News:The Queens beauty who was slashed in the face with a broken glass by her then-boyfriend, disgraced state Sen. Hiram Monserrate, has disappeared.
[Karla] Giraldo’s lawyers are pressing a $35 million lawsuit against the city, NYPD detectives and staff at Long Island Jewish Hospital alleging the domestic violence case against Monserrate was fabricated because he was a public official.
Her lawyers claim they haven’t heard from Giraldo for months and can’t locate her, prompting the city to suggest the suit has been abandoned and should be dismissed if she is not found by the next court date on Dec. 9, according to papers filed in Brooklyn Federal Court.
Not so, insists Giraldo’s lawyer Linda Cronin.
“We have not found her, but she travels a lot and goes back and forth to her native country [Ecuador] frequently,” Cronin told the Daily News.
She never indicated an intent to abandon the case in the past,” Cronin said, adding that she last spoke to Giraldo in midsummer.
Despite “numerous” attempts to find her, the lawyers say in court documents that they only hope to hear from Giraldo’s close family members “in the near future.”
Giraldo’s cousin did not return messages left for her in Queens and Miami.
Monserrate is serving a two-year sentence and may have to be deposed under oath in federal prison. He is due to be released in 2015.

Charade almost over
From the NY Post:The ex-girlfriend of former state Sen. Hiram Monserrate has asked a federal judge to give the disgraced politician — once accused of slashing her face with broken glass — a lenient sentence in a mail-fraud case, describing him as “the kindest man I have known.”
“Hiram has always been very, very good to me and has never been hurtful to me,” Karla Giraldo gushes in a letter to Judge Colleen McMahon, denying claims that Monserrate intentionally slashed her in his Queens apartment in December 2008 during an argument.
Monserrate, 45, will be sentenced Dec. 11 by McMahon on charges related to his having obtained while a city councilman more than $100,000 for a nonprofit group that he knew he would utilize for his unsuccessful 2006 campaign for state Senate.
He pleaded guilty to mail fraud and conspiracy to commit mail fraud last May — and faces 21 to 27 months in prison under federal guidelines. His lawyer asked for community service.

Hiram's gal suing Queens DA

From the Daily News:
QUEENS PROSECUTORS are trying to separate themselves from a federal lawsuit that claims they forced ex-state Sen. Hiram Monserrate’s girlfriend to accuse him of domestic violence.
The $35 million lawsuit filed by Karla Giraldo also names NYPD officers and staffers at Long Island Jewish Hospital Center. The suit was the subject of a 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals hearing on Tuesday.
During the arguments, a city lawyer urged the court to dismiss the lawsuit against the prosecutors on grounds of “absolute immunity.”
But Giraldo’s attorney, Christopher Bellistri, countered that a Brooklyn Federal Court judge got it right last year when he ruled that the prosecutors could be sued.

Karla looking to cash in
From the Daily News:Hiram Monserrate's girlfriend is suing prosecutors, cops and hospital staffers for $35 million for conspiring to falsely charge the ex-pol with slashing her.
Karla Giraldo's complaint in Brooklyn Federal Court repeats the story she gave on the witness stand at Monserrate's trial last year, insisting the injury was a freak accident.
She paints a picture of a massive conspiracy aimed at framing her lover because he was a state senator at the time.
"All of the defendants conspired among each other and with each other to unlawfully detain and prevent plaintiff from leaving the hospital . . . until she would falsely accuse her boyfriend of assaulting her," the complaint states.
Monserrate, 43, is not identified by name. He was acquitted of felony charges, but convicted of misdemeanor assault against Giraldo, 31, for violently dragging her through his building lobby.
The narrative in the 24-page complaint begins with Giraldo's claim that she was "accidentally injured while being brought a glass of water" by her boyfriend and was cut by flying glass when it broke.
She claims he "transported" her to the Long Island Jewish Medical Center emergency room. A video showed Monserrate pulling Giraldo down the stairs of his apartment building.
While the gash in her face was being stitched, hospital workers pressured her to say Monserrate intentionally injured her during an altercation, she claims.
The suit also contends city detectives badgered her into making false statements against Monserrate, telling her he had other girlfriends and that his wife was at the stationhouse.
In what appears to be a new allegation, the suit claims NYPD Detective Stephen Vessa, who worked with Monserrate when he was a cop, told Giraldo "they're trying to flip you."
