Disturbing conditions persist at Bayside Cemetery
From WPIX:
It's a cemetery that looks like a scene out of a horror movie. Bayside Cemetery in Queens, right off Pitkin Avenue, has overturned headstones, either broken or misplaced.
"I was just doing my deliveries nearby and took a peek. What I saw was disturbing," said Anthony Pisciotta, who emailed PIX11 News pictures of the horrific scene.
The graveyard is in disarray, some crypts are left open, rotting skeletons are in clear view of the street.
"If it was a dead dog in the street, someone would move it, take it away. There are no words," said Pisciotta, giving PIX11 News a disturbing tour.

Slowly but surely, Bayside Cemetery getting cleaned up
Progress continues apace at cleaning up the monument to neglect that is Bayside Cemetery in Ozone Park.
Thanks to CAJAC (Community Association for Jewish At-Risk Cemeteries), new landscapers have been hired, and every weekend volunteers are out there. Usually it’s one or two “regulars”, but sometimes CAJAC is able to rustle up Boy Scout troops, familes of people interred there, or other small groups.
When I first went out there this past summer, the task seemed Sisyphean, it now seems merely Herculean. The key is persistence.

Cleaning up Bayside Cemetery
Hey remember the decrepit condition of Bayside Cemetery that I linked to here awhile back? Well, there is a group trying to fix it up, or at least de-weed it.
Bravo.
