Caption proud American Bill de Blasio
Yeesh, look at that puss. The Blaz is clearly annoyed to be marching in this parade, which happened to take place during his farcical presidential campaign in Iowa. This is exactly what that 100-year-old veteran above was talking about.
This photo is cropped from a campaign tweet of his. Funny how it doesn't show him marching with other people and this is the only picture of him his staffers can find of him waving old glory, which is why this looks so weird.

BLM marches through wrong nabe, steals & burns American flags
So, Bayside BLM put out a call to its brainwashed to gather in Bushwick to protest "police unions and Q anon". Right off the bat you know this is going to head in the wrong direction. And it literally did! The fearless black clad chanters marched their outraged tuchuses to Maspeth, to protest outside the home of Ed Mullins, the President of the NYC Sergeants' Benevolent Association:

There's only one problem: THAT Ed Mullins doesn't live there. Someone with the same name does. That didn't stop Lucha Libre! You may remember this bigoted bloated bloviating bloke from Bayside BLM's Pat Lynch protest.

BLM then continued their march, and when they came to a patriotic block where homeowners were proudly displaying Old Glory, they stole the flags.

And then set them on fire.

They then proceeded to the town square, where a 9/11 memorial stands, to carry on with the hissy fit. (FYI: Holden's family doesn't look very white. The Sunnyside protest was organized by the 108th Pct Community Council. Holden demanded that the Glendale shelter be closed. There currently isn't one in Maspeth. But why let facts get in the way when you've come this far on a Wrong Way Corrigan mission?)

Holden's opponent, meanwhile, was cheering them on from the sidelines.
A quick Google search found Mullins' bio, which reveals the following:
He and his wife Angela a former NYPD detective, have twin sons and reside in Nassau County...He is a member of the Board of Directors for Building Bridges of Long Island, Mercy College School of Business and the National Football League Players Alumni Association where he serves as Treasurer; he has served as a volunteer firefighter in Nassau County, head coach of the men’s ice hockey team at New York University and is a member of the American College Hockey Coaches Association, the Amateur Hockey Coaches Association, USA Hockey and the National Association of Fitness Professionals. In addition to coaching at the collegiate level he continues to dedicate countless hours to youth hockey in the Long Island Amateur Hockey League in New York.
So, they were not just at the wrong house or in the wrong neighborhood. They weren't even in the right county! I guess the fact that the long time president of a police union is not likely to live in a mixed use industrial-residential section of Queens didn't dawn on these geniuses. They also didn't even have the correct union boss on their flyer...

Flag burners run away from flag protectors
![]() |
| Daily News photo |
Nothing says “rebel” quite like being saved from a pummeling by the men and women you’re protesting against.
The anti-cop group “Disarm NYPD” staged a pre-Fourth of July flag-burning Wednesday night in Fort Greene Park — but the protesters’ plans went up in smoke when a group of furious bikers moved in to teach them a lesson.
The activists had publicized the event as a response to “systemic racism” in NYPD policies. They originally intended to burn a Confederate flag to (somehow) make that point, then changed their minds, opting instead to light up Old Glory. “We maintain, unwaveringly, that both the Confederate flag and the American flag are symbols of oppression,” the group announced.
But when the handful of protesters arrived at the park, they were met by dozens of counter-protesters equipped with water guns.
Then members of the Hallowed Sons Motorcycle Club lit into the flag-burners — at which point New York’s Finest came to the rescue, sheltering the protesters and escorting them safely out of the park.

Flag vandalism suspected in Rockaway
From CBS New York:
It’s a mystery in Rockaway Park – someone or something is making a mockery of the American flag, and residents want to know what is causing it.
Old Glory waves prominently along Rockaway Beach Boulevard, mounted on angular poles that are attached to utility posts between Beach 110th and Beach 116th streets.
...over the weekend, some American flags on the strip disappeared. Poles were bent, and some flags were left dangling.
Many residents said given that the damage was done just before Independence Day, it is disgraceful.
A representative of the local community board said the main concern right now is safety. The board is looking to have the poles taken down before someone gets hurt.
The Rockaway Civic Association put up most of the flags right after Superstorm Sandy. Others, including the now-damaged ones, went up around Memorial Day.

Kids causing problems in Woodhaven
Salvatore Congemi has lived in Woodhaven for more than 10 years. Rowdy kids from nearby JHS 210 are not a new problem around his corner home at 89th Avenue and 92nd Street, but lately, things have gotten way out of hand.
“We’ve always had fights and stuff,” he said. “But never anything like this.”
Recently, Congemi said, students from the school have been targeting his home, throwing rocks at his front window and taunting him. Last week, the situation reached a dangerous turning point.
“I was sitting in my living room and at just about 10 minutes to four, BANG!” he explained.
A rock shattered the middle pane of his bay window. Congemi said it was thrown by a student at the school. Several more rocks and sticks that have been thrown at his house still litter his front lawn.
Of the group of students who have been harassing him and throwing objects at his window, one was arrested, but the problem hasn’t ceased and the student who was arrested has been released, Congemi said.
He added that the students have even targeted the American flag he hangs outside his front door.
“I really feel this is a bias crime,” he said. “Maybe because of the flag, who knows.”
Jeffrey Schiff, the commanding officer of the 106th Precinct, said at last Thursday’s Community Board 10 meeting that there have been a recent string of robberies in the area, many of which are being traced to students from area schools, including John Adams High School.

Time for a new flag
"Take a look at the flag in front of Gleason's Funeral Home on 150th St. in Whitestone, NY…I personally called them yesterday and asked them to replace it. It would be disrespectful if a veteran was being waked with this tattered symbol of our nation flying outside. They assured me that it would be changed immediately…Well, that was yesterday. If they aren't going to replace it, they could at least have the decency to take this monstrosity down!" - Bob

Rego Park fruit store now flying American flags

From the Queens Chronicle:
The Family Fruit Farm grocery store at 94-01 63 Drive had featured the flags of 22 different countries flying above its awning, but not until recently have two American flags joined the row of nations.
The flags, nestled between the symbols of Russia and Mexico, are slightly smaller than the other banners. But they fly front and center, directly facing the intersection of 63rd Drive and Booth Street for all to see.
The previous lack of Old Glory had upset a nearby shop owner as well as Vietnam War veteran and Rego Park resident George Gardner, who called the lack of the American flag “ridiculous” and “astonishing,” when he called the Chronicle to complain about it in October.
Gardner says he was not involved in getting the two American flags placed on top of the store and does not know who is responsible.
He understands that lack of the banners in the first place may have just been an oversight, but the fact that the American flags now fly is “refreshing” to the military veteran.

Store flies all flags except American
From the Queens Chronicle:Flags of 22 different nations fly on the awning of the Family Food Farm grocery store at 94-01 63 Dr. in Rego Park. Old Glory is not one of them.
And that is something Vietnam War veteran George Gardner, 66, of Rego Park finds “ridiculous” — though many passersby and even store employees have never even noticed the lack of the Stars and Stripes.
“It’s astonishing that you can have flags of 22 different nations on your store but not one of them is the American flag,” Gardner said. “It’s just ridiculous.”
Andy Lee, a manager at Family Food Farm, has been working at the grocery store for the past five months, and he did not realize the American flag was missing from the awning.
“There really isn’t an American one?” Lee inquired as he walked outside to look at the row of flags. “I don’t even look up there most of the time; I didn’t know.”
Lee also said that if a customer would donate an American flag to the store, he would have no problem adding it to the rooftop collection.
“If someone wants to bring a flag here and we have space for it, I’ll put it up there,” he said.
However, Gardner claims to have already made such an offer.
“I went to the store and offered to pay for a flag,” he said. “It’s a fantastic store and I understand they’re busy, but they just said ‘Yeah, yeah’ and that was it.”
Lee said he hadn’t known about Gardner’s concerns.
“I’ve never heard of anything like that,” he said.

Someone took "Stars and Stripes Forever" a little too literally

Not sure if this is some kind of political statement or if the groundskeeper is just too lazy to replace the flag, but this beauty was spotted flying over the Newtown High School Athletic Field in Elmhurst.

Bayside flag flap

From the Times Ledger:
Retired Bayside businessman Jack Oshier did not need a microphone when he waved American flags to make his point in the 46-35 Oceania St. school cafeteria where Community Board 11 was holding its last formal gathering Monday before a two-month summer recess.
According to Oshier, the Bayside Village Business Improvement District has been reluctant to agree to fund the placement of flags along Bayside’s train station fencing on Bell Boulevard — a decoration he and other business owners had previously paid for themselves. He said BID leaders said they first needed approval from the city.
“These flags don’t cause any problems and they are staying up there no matter what,” Oshier said. “Doesn’t the BID have other things to be concerned about?”
Oshier also reminded the board that businesses advertising by placing unauthorized signs on the railroad bridge was illegal and should be brought to the attention of city Department of Transportation Commissioner Janette Sadik-Khan.

Remember in November
From the Queens Courier:We solemnly ask you to take a moment on November 11 and remember those who have given their lives in the current war against terrorism being waged in Iraq and Afghanistan and to say a prayer for every one of them. They died so that we may continue to live free.
As we approach the 91st Veterans Day observance this month, we hope your also remember the one million New Yorkers, men and women who have served in uniform and deserve our thanks, not only on Veterans Day, but on every day.
We hope that you support our politicians as they lobby for -- and win -- better benefits and programs, property tax exemptions, tuition education assistance, job training, employment assistance and counseling.
We call on newly elected Governor Andrew Cuomo to increase funding for veterans' service agencies and help returning citizen-soldiers from Iraq and Afghanistan to reclaim homes lost to foreclosures while they were deployed and enact legislation to halt such losses in the future.
We hope that his year, each and every home in Queens displays a flag on Veterans Day.

You're a grand old flag
From the Queens Gazette:On Monday, June 14, the United States will recognize Flag Day, the 233rd anniversary of the first Flag Act, passed by the Continental Congress on June 14, 1777.
The Act created the first flag for the original 13 colonies as they broke away from England. It stated that “the flag of the United States be made of thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new Constellation”.
Flag Day was kept as a local tradition across the country until it was established on May 30, 1916, under a proclamation of President Woodrow Wilson. President Harry Truman signed an Act of Congress on Aug. 3, 1949, placing National Flag Day on the 14th day of June every year.

Proof that the mental patients have taken over the asylum
From MSNBC:On any other day at Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill, Daniel Galli and his four friends would not even be noticed for wearing T-shirts with the American flag. But Cinco de Mayo is not any typical day especially on a campus with a large Mexican American student population.
Galli says he and his friends were sitting at a table during brunch break when the vice principal asked two of the boys to remove American flag bandannas that they wearing on their heads and for the others to turn their American flag T-shirts inside out. When they refused, the boys were ordered to go to the principal's office.
"They said we could wear it on any other day," Daniel Galli said, "but today is sensitive to Mexican-Americans because it's supposed to be their holiday so we were not allowed to wear it today."
The boys said the administrators called their T-shirts "incendiary" that would lead to fights on campus.
"They said if we tried to go back to class with our shirts not taken off, they said it was defiance and we would get suspended," Dominic Maciel, Galli's friend, said.
The boys really had no choice, and went home to avoid suspension. They say they're angry they were not allowed to express their American pride. Their parents are just as upset, calling what happened to their children, "total nonsense."
"I think it's absolutely ridiculous," Julie Fagerstrom, Maciel's mom, said. "All they were doing was displaying their patriotic nature. They're expressing their individuality."
But to many Mexican-American students at Live Oak, this was a big deal. They say they were offended by the five boys and others for wearing American colors on a Mexican holiday.
"I think they should apologize cause it is a Mexican Heritage Day," Annicia Nunez, a Live Oak High student, said. "We don't deserve to be get disrespected like that. We wouldn't do that on Fourth of July."
As for an apology, the boys and their families say, "fat chance."
"I'm not going to apologize. I did nothing wrong," Galli said. "I went along with my normal day. I might have worn an American flag, but I'm an American and I'm proud to be an American."
