Dockless bike program hasn't gone as planned
From PIX11:
It's less than a week old, but some Rockaway residents want to put the brakes on a new dockless bike program after the two-wheelers started popping up in some very unusual and inconvenient places.
The great thing about the dockless bikes is that riders can pick them up anywhere. They just need to find the closest one by using the GPS built into each of the apps.
When riders are done, they can park them anywhere.
While that's convenient for the rider, it's also causing frustration for those in the community. On the Facebook Group Friends of Rockaway Beach, residents posted photos of Limebikes abandoned all over the neighborhood. One was ditched in the dunes, while others were left blocking driveways and sidewalks.
The problem is one Limebikes has experienced before. There's an entire Twitter account with the handle @DocklessBikeFail that showcases problems parking the bikes in Seattle.
Sometimes the bikes end up in trees, underwater or stacked on street corners.
Wow, what a great idea!

I could have told these idiots that.

These assholes are leaving these ugly ass limebikes in the middle of the sidewalk and on people's lawns in Belle Harbor and Neponsit. They are sprawled all over the boardwalk in Riis Park with the rest of the garbage. (And is there garbage, but that's another story) The other ugly bikes that are out there do have a cable lock, but it's so small it can barely fit around a pole, so expect these to be left all over the place too.
This is only the beginning, because at the end of the month, this goddamn city and their senseless pandering and favoritism to tourists and hipshits are going to drop dockless electronic motor powered versions of these bikes. Which are basically motorcycles.
What's really stupid and a double standard is that it's illegal for delivery workers to use them but they will allow these bikes to be used by selfish stupid morons.
The real reason this is happening is because of the proliferation of bars on the boardwalk, so the majority of people using these things are probably drunk off their asses.
These also...

Maybe they should do a story on all the private cars littering the streets first, they take up a lot more room.
Hmm seems like a great way for vibrant diversity to lure you to they hood an rob yo ass!
Welcome to the new New York...where bike riding hipsters and tourists are more important than the residents who pay taxes
did anyone actually think this program would be a good thing? leave your crap anywhere and someone else will come make use of it...
i'll quote Red Foreman on this "DUMBASS!"
It was implemented too late. They should have done this around the same time that the Citibikes were introduced. No one wants to see more Citibike docking stations in their neighborhood. They steal parking spaces from residents and are just another sign of gentrification.
Rather move an occasional bike off my property than lose hundreds of parking spaces to CityBike racks.
As part of the program, riders are encouraged to leave these bikes at Ft. Tilden. On Saturday, July 28, sculptor Hans Jergen Rouk will be creating his site specific masterpiece SPOKE. Hans is intending to create a tower by welding the bikes together. The projected, part of the Mayor's "Arts in the Park" program will stay on display thru September 10th.
Is CitiBank involved with CitiBike?
What a scam! Bikes are as dangerous as cars! AND they DONT follow traffic rules. License plates and insurance should be required for ALL adult bikers!
The dockless car program hasn't gone as planned either. I regularly see dockless cars parked in crosswalks, in bus stops, on sidewalks, next to hydrants, in traffic lanes, etc.
What a great idea!
Soon there will be no bikes left. They will all be in the water. Dumb program and a waste of money.
That welded bike tower sounds dumber than these snide jokes about cars. The dumbest thing is that this art projects' existence is justified by this irresponsible bike share "pilot' program.
Totally irresponsible program! There's a reason why CitiBike doesn't want to go near the Atlantic Ocean. Our city is run by fools.
What a scam! Bikes are as dangerous as cars!
Yes, 150-250 lbs vs 2000-3500 lbs. No difference there.
In 2017 cars had 214 fatalities with 101 of them pedestrians vs 1 fatality (first in 4 years) for bikes.
Obviously bikes are just as dangerous as cars!
What did New Yorkers expect? Helllllooo! Remember that the rest of the world is watching you looney liberals. Try replacing your man-child mayor with someone who really cares.
are yew tellin me that these bicycles are not already gone missing, spray painted black or covered up in black duct tape ridden by small adult males ?
LOL !
