Please support a developer's victims

"Kelly Doyle Amen is a single mom and grandma who has lived in her small single family home in Bay Ridge for over twenty years. Last year the house next to her was purchased by a local businessman in order to develop and 'flip' the property for a quick profit. When the funding ran out - the developer flew the coop and left the construction in disarray. Now Kelly's home is in grave danger of fire, rodents and collapse. Please join us as we demand action from our elected officials and irresponsible developers."

Demanding the government powers that be to do their job.

The demands will go no where.

Showing and expressing our lowly station in life and contributing as much moneys as possible could perhaps gain one some consideration and help from our masters...

If the developer bought the house a year ago then it's been less than a year since it was abandoned.

What is the legal course for this? The city can go after the property if the taxes are delinquent but they need to go through the courts.

Why is her house in grave danger of collapse? Are the properties attached? I can't find any details about any of this on the only webpage they have up...the Facebook page.

Does she have current damage? Did she contact her insurance so that they can provide guidance?

What might that be since it has not even been a year? There are no legal documents presented in the story and the name of the developer isn't listed either on her webapge.

What repairs does she need done? How much will it cost? Did she get estimates? How much money is she trying to raise?

Maybe you should have gone to public school so you could learn to analyze a story.

Woman is a protected class if she was discriminated against for being a woman.
But that only is in cases of renting, selling homes or employment.

How does that apply to this?

That sucks and I would not want to live next to that.

It is an eyesore and should be secured, but what is specifically happening and what does she want? Vacant is not illegal. Unsecured is not illegal. DOB does not observe and work being done.

The DOB can not force him to finish the work. The DOB file shows someone came out and did not observe work being done from the outside and was not able to gain access.

Her best bet is to shame him to finishing or selling I guess or she can take him to court.

I would tone down the rhetoric and stick to the facts. She made a complaint that the house was "ENIMATE CLAPSE"..(her spelling) and the DOB closed that because it was not true.

She might have more luck with DOH and complain about rodents. But even then, it is only a fine.

I'm sorry but she needs to have a clear message and not throw everything at this like her Facebook comment.

" haven’t decorated or anything i am terrified to walk in my own door .. the nights are horrible .. and we are expecting rain .. the mold"

Is there a hole in her roof because of next door? Why hasn't she decorated? Why would the mold in the neighbor house affect her? She needs to get a coherent statement together outlining what is illegal about the house next to her. Boarded up windows and an open door is not going to cut it. Sucks but the DOB works within the law.

I can't view the video, as I don't have a Facebook account.

Vacant and unguarded is a valid DOB complaint. It's entered all the time.

You are allowed to own a vacant house . Remember the story you just had about the old lady that someone faked the deed? She didn’t live there. Unkept is different, abandoned ... different .

Basically this lady can only hope for is the raccoons and any health issues to be resolved and the door secured .

Other than that , the owner can keep a vacant house with boarded up back windows if it is damaging her property.

If I was her , and this was only visible from the backyard , I would put up a privacy fence and plant some Thuja green giants .

She can shame him and stick to the facts but she needs to be careful of disparaging remarks . The video was public but now it’s private so many people won’t be able to view it .

The banana republic of NYC where developers are kings and the citizens peons, people stop voting for shysters like Dumblasio and Cuomo, what is wrong with you?

"Is she a white woman? Not really a protected class these days."

-It's the most protected class in the city right now, save for traditional, native born white women with thick NY accents. They still don't count.

If she put on a hijab - a head scarf - she could scream discrimination a anti- what ever.

Vacant homes are so dangerous- they attract drug users, dealers, prostitutes. A very unsavory condition. There's a lot of stories about drug users setting fire to vacant homes accidentally.

Is the owner of the vacant house trying to drive her out of her home?

Sympathy, but what is the legal recourse here? Sue the idiot next door to you.

This doesn't make any sense accept for you trying to make some point with a racist comment. If the house was for sale and she made an offer and the owner said, "No, I don't sell to women", then she has a case. Otherwise, no, even with a head scarf this is not discrimination

>>If she put on a hijab - a head scarf - she could scream discrimination a anti- what ever.

Vacant is not illegal. "Could attract drug users" is not illegal. "Could attract prostitutes" is not illegal. Her complaint should be that the house is not secured and has wild animals living in it. If the owner secures the house then her problem is solved for the time being. Although it looks ugly from the back

Use to live on the corner of 101 Street and 4th Ave in a apartment building. Nice area. This is just a shame. I moved to Queens and now I regret it.

John said...

Then the most she can ask for is the house be sealed.

So what happened with this story?
