Islanders moving to Belmont

From Metro:

The state announced on Wednesday that the bid submitted by the Islanders, Sterling Project Development and Oak View Group won the right to build a state-of-the-art arena on the 43 acres of land in Elmont, NY between Hempstead Turnpike and the Cross Island Parkway.

It is a $1 billion investment which is being completely funded by the Islanders, Sterling and OVG. The team is expected to get a 49-year lease and pay $40 million in rent, per Randi Marshall of Newsday.

The 43 acres of developed land will also include a hotel that will allow fans and opposing teams to stay at, 435,000-square feet of retail space and a cultural center.

So will this hotel be a homeless shelter too? Did mayor dumbdumb put something in the Nassau county politicians' heads that opening a hotel a little bit out of NYC will help him out with the nyc homeless population?

This whole plan is stupid to begin with. What was the point to them renovating the nassau Colosseum if you were just going to build another stadium? Good luck home owners in Elmont. Also, they would have to start running that train around there alot more than what they do now.

Thank the Good Lord that a Cultural Center is included!!!

Well, at least Wilpon is paying for this particular stadium (unlike the last one).

And I am particularly excited about the cultural center, as I'm sure we all are.

Yay another arena! Why not build two while the construction gear is mobilized.

Will the Belmont LIRR station be open year-round, as requested by Councilman Grodenchik? Or will it remain in use only during games as the LIR makes excuses that there's not enough Main Line track capacity for a full-time Belmont branch?

Epic mistake, the Cross Island Parkway is to narrow and cant handle it.
To add all stone the over passes were designed so they cant be widened to accommodate busses & trucks.
I doubt this can happen, it be a disaster just getting the equipment & building material on sight.
The governor must be stoned or gone nuts.

The culture of Floral Park, Elmont and Bellerose. Can't wait!

The great experiment of hockey in Brooklyn has died a slow death. Good luck getting out of the 49 year lease without breaking the bank!

"Moses’s parkways are also defined by ultra-low seemingly impenetrable bridges, designed, says Koppelman, to keep buses of poor city people out. Koppelman even once measured the overpasses on the Wantagh Parkway himself to verify that they were in fact deliberately built too low."

Verified fact. Read the Power Broker. Moses was a genius - a bit off, and definitely needing OPPOSITION (Jacobs was right on many things, but not all of them - but right to be a foil to Moses' tyranny). Ironically Moses' LIE (& the LIRR) are part of a legacy that "protects" where I am from encroachment on 3 sides.

It was said before, although logic often flies over some commentators' heads here at the Crapsters' - Elmont's had a public sporting stadium for over a century plus one decade at this point. It's part of the territory.

The Islanders - you're gonna love this - BELONG on Long Island. I was just out on the Island this past weekend, most people I queried liked it; more importantly, people I know near Elmont LIKE it. Maybe not all of them will, but that's how things work.

What happen to the Monkey Tommy ?

When in Rome, do what the Romans do said...

Mr. Elfreeti finally kindly realized that the monkey was not in accordance with the de facto decorum of the Crap posting style. For which the readers are very, very greatful. Thank you, Mr. Elfreeti. We can now read your valuable inciteful commentary without this frenetic distraction.

Western Elmont is already 1/2 a shithole, to bad about Floral Park because its going to be destroyed like Westbury & Uniondale. Places where you need a gun in your home because they come right through your windows to rob, rape and sometimes murder you at night if you don't have money or jewelry to give them.

May Floral Park, Elmont and Bellerose R.I.P
As we learned with the construction of the Nassau Coliseum & the Marriot the vice, shit & garbage this will bring from the city will be unbearable as the traffic jams.
