Second Avenue subway is now open

From PIX11:

The nearly 2-mile segment adds stations along Second Avenue at 96th, 86th and 72nd streets and connects them to a different subway line at 63rd Street and Lexington Avenue. It's seen as crucial to alleviating congestion in the nation's biggest subway system.

This news segment was a nice pile of shiny turds. It looked like it was the debut of a ride at busch gardens. Mario's son spared went full throttle to make sure this opening had high interest by giving out free metrocards. The people that were interviewed looked like staffers, especially the one who said that she finally has access to the west side (there are 4 crosstown bus routes there lady). The only part that had truth was when it was briefly mentioned that a lot of small businesses were ruined by, despite Andy's self-aggrandizing bragging, the years of construction and massive costs. The cherry on this shit sundae is at the end with some asshole designing a disgusting burger for the occasion.

And it's not finished too, for the original plan was to get it up to 125 but the MTA split in phases. Which is going to be hell for all the mom and pops in Spanish Harlem.

I may be a cynical person and a bit of a curmudgeon, but I can't wait to see what this line looks like after a week, because now the homeless have a new warm place to dwell and defecate, and all that unprotected art is going to be defaced.

The digital media wing of the Gentrification Industrial Complex didn't waste any time and pounced on this grand opening like the flies on shit they are. Streeteasy has just anointed Yorkville as the new hot neighborhood 24 hours before Mario's son had his Gatsby party in the subway.

Why is it that the Upper East Side of Manhattan could put up with years and years of construction discomfort but Astoria wont hear of extending the subway line from Ditmars to LaGuardia?

So what is the total cost for the 2 mile subway line?

Geroge

That area is Vallonia, home of the pampered. As long as they get their way, it doesn't matter how many millions are inconvenienced. Banal in architecture, void of ideas, but self entitled.

Trying to make a messy transition from Italian-Greek to Snowflake-Hipshit. Any bets they will drop the ball in that one?

@George "Astoria wont hear of extending the subway line from Ditmars to LaGuardia?"
That makes too much sense to happen it's better to build a new trolley for the REIT's !

You are shortsighted, my man.
If you extend the subway line to La Guadia it would bring the riff raff.
That's why east Flushing still remains a good nabe.
If the #7 were extended down Roosevelt to Northern...there goes the nabe.
Leaen to be thankful for some inconvenience, by George.

No worries, now they all drive minivans! There goes (should say went) the hood.

Barely a quarter of an actual subway line.

$2.2 billion/km or $670,000/ft - at these prices, why not?

Whoopie doo!
That makes everyone who owns property near it see a major boost in the value of their holdings.
