Removal of toll booths is in the works

From the Office of the Governor:

Open road tolling will be completed at all MTA bridges and tunnels by the end of 2017. The schedule is as follows:

Hugh L. Carey Tunnel – January 2017
Queens Midtown Tunnel – January 2017
Rockaway Bridges – Spring 2017
RFK Bridge – Summer 2017
Verrazano-Narrows Bridge – Summer 2017
Throgs Neck Bridge – Fall 2017
Bronx-Whitestone Bridge – Fall 2017

With the implementation of open road tolling, state-of-the-art sensors and cameras will be suspended over the highway on structures called "gantries" that read E-ZPass tags and take license plate images, so vehicles no longer have to stop to pay the toll. Vehicles with E-ZPass tags are automatically charged. Non-E-ZPass vehicles have their license plates recorded and a bill is mailed to the registered owner of each vehicle every 30 days.

These sensors don't work well at night, in the dark. This should be fun. Remember what happened at HUD when Cuomo was at its helm?

get your plastic plate covers ready.

Removing the toll booth is going to make the entrance into broad channel super hazardous at the crosswalk to the foot and bike path.

So it'll mean no toll employees to pay but I bet you they will still up the price on them....it's only the ny way!

Big brother is watching a bit more closely.

This is an additional psychological separation from the government toll theft and the time when the subjects are invoiced.

Toll increases can be enacted by the click of a computer keyboard with the masses not realizing the increase until the end of the billing cycle. And many may not even notice, but just keep paying into the unending voracious hunger of the government leviathan.

This plan is multifaceted.
Toll revenue can be increased.
Union toll takers will be eliminated.
Technology can be tested and the subjects prepared for future implementation throughout the city providing tollways for every road in the city.
As soon as the bugs are worked out, this will be installed on all of the free bridges, especially the Fifty-ninth Street Bridge.

Once the system is installed and running it is just the timing to get the legislatures to vote in favor of the illusive "Cogestion Pricing"...

Time to bend and cover your license plates!

It's great however what happens to those workers?? Do they lose their jobs?

Agree, this is laying the groundwork for future congestion pricing and tolling every crossing...and maybe been other roads. But have you seen the nighttime implementation (already testing at the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel)? Strobe lights constantly flashing overhead as you enter the tunnel. Someone's going to have a seizure.

Get your license plate covers before they run out!

Dear lord you people like nothing. Getting rid of toll booths will reduce the "stop and go" traffic. Most other cities haven't had tolls like this is 8 years and they work.

Paying a person to sit in a toll booth collecting money makes more sense to you then having a computer do it? Who the hell uses cash anymore?

if i cant pay cash and a bill comes to my house
how can i visit my girlfriends in da bronx without the wife finding out?
this really sux

Your license plates have been scanned and run through a computer system whenever a cop car drives by and whenever you drive through certain intersections all over the country for like 10 years now.

What the hell do you think those things are on the back of cop car trunks?

So, am I the ONLY one to notice how Queens residents are STILL paying a never ending price for the Broad Channel Toll that exists WITHIN two points that connect Howard Beach and Broad Channel to the Rockaways???

I thought that Big Ass Addabbo was supposed to address this matter during the eight staggering years that he served HIMSELF as a city council troglodyte (one of 50, and 51 including Melissa Mark-Viverito)?

So, now that Eric Ulrich (or, rather 'Derelict Dull-rich!') has parked his twerpy, pipsqueak ass into the vacuous galaxy of the city council space cadet academy of 'Friendly Robbin,' how is this intra-borough toll still FOISTED on us for decades? At least the Rockaway residents get heavy discounts, but NO discounts from people like me who live in Howard Beach, much less my relatives in Broad Channel traveling in the other direction?

And, this is why the city council voted themselves a pay raise of 32% last January, where everyone else continues to pay a soul-crusing price. It pays to be an empowered idiot in de Blasio's City Hall, where the greater the city council crime, the better job security that prevails. And, the public be eternally duped, bilked, scammed and damned!

One less paycheck for the non functioning union member. maybe they can all get jobs at ACS

And L-rd help us, the Puerto Rican delegate to the City Council, Mark-Viverito, wants to throw her hat into the 2017 mayoral race. Could we get any lower than her? Or Christine Quinn? Are there any fine upstanding people who genuinely care for the citizens and needs of NYC out there to run for mayor? Or must we continually pick from a menu of wall-to-wall scum?

""Time to bend and cover your license plates""

Wont work, new HD scannars are also gonna read the the windshield stickers and track you if you owe tickets, child support or have a warrant. The data instantly goes wireless to patrol cars who will also have these next generation scanners that can read over 10 cars per second from over 30 feet away.

--Impound your car and it may cost you 1000s to get it back.
You can bet new license plates will have RFID chips in or behind the pain as well.
Biggest scam to fleece ever !!
I know because they been testing this shit out in the Hamptons this summer with these trucks owned by Google and cops scanning registration stickers with the same little scanning pods on the side of the cars. (Google must be in co-hoots)

Next are scanners for the bridges that have no tolls....

It'll be way to easy for them to just install this on the few remaining free crossings and start charging us for those too. Pretty soon we won't be able to afford to drive into Manhattan.

Anonymous said...

> Who the hell uses cash anymore?

Who doesn't use cash? Who wants every purchase tracked? Who wants everywhere they go tracked?

These real time scanning pods are gonna be EVERYPLACE and that poster is correct, they can instantly tag and start charging, fining (and surcharging) for anything they want If they can actually use this Trojan
Go 1 MPH over, have a light out, go an inch over a crosswalk or bus stop guess what ?

--Another Trojan being setup under the guise of "being good for us"
How long before these pods are on every streetlight monitor every home, window, sidewalk and doorway like in parts of London near the Parliament buildings. from what I understand in London they put the broadband receivers in the gas, electric meters. The data "hops" to local hub and streams live via VPN and be accessed from anywhere.

I honestly wish this bastard progressive middle class hating Marxist mayor would get hit by a bus, OD and kill himself already.
This war hostility toward drivers and homeowners is out of control

This misery & obliteration of neighborhoods has become tolerable.

As you can see from the majority of posts here, it's abundantly clear that We the People do not trust any branch of New York City and State government, much less anything above it on the Federal level, straight through to 'The White House' (the original money laundering Ponzi scheme of terror and global terrorism).

What we are seeing right now is what George Orwell wrote about more than half a century ago ('1984,' and 'Animal Farm') that was classified as fiction.

It's finally time to remove these books in all public libraries from the 'fiction' section, and shelve them in the 'nonfiction' section, because they've been nonfiction for more than four decades, and counting.

The corruption and corporate fascism is here to stay, folks. There is no escaping it. In fact, I am beginning to understand and appreciate the androids who go 'off script' on HBO's recent debut of 'Westworld,' and how the last episode ten ended in certain pandemonium and anarchy, exactly like it's soon going to end for all corporate bought-and-controlled politicians, all of whom continue to behave like mad, bureaucratic-damaged androids themselves, destroying everything and everyone in their insidious wake.

So do non ez-pass holders get the ez-pass discounted rate using the licence plate?

Anonymous said...

This will NOT alleviate congestion, you've still got four lanes going into two.

Let's keep building monstrosities that gold 40 stories high. Let's keep packing people into the city until there is human gridlock .

To the guy who has his girlfriend in the Bronx...take MTA....so your wife does not know.

Tolls = Extortion racket. Why are we still paying tolls?

Anonymous said...

Exactly, last Anonymous! We the People ALL continue to pay a toll (and soul-crushing price), that continues to create slush funds for politicians (not public servants!), whose only functioin is to pad their 'Friends & Family,' taxpayer-funded payrolls so that even LESS can be accomplished for their ever languishing constituents, where EXTREME taxation without representation only continues to worsen by the hour, as these voracious, predatory, arrogant power grabbing thieves continue to OPENLY PRACTICE their systemic corruption, graft and endless greed with impunity——and, without censure of any kind!

THIS IS GOVERNMENT TYRANNY and ANARCHY PERSONIFIED! And, the public be damned!

Anonymous said...

Another tax and levy, Anonymous, that's why We the Little People continue to pay for this bullshit, especially because no one has gridlocked traffic to the Midtown Tunnel and other toll plazas throughout the City and State of New York, the way the 'Reverend' Al Sharpton organizes HIS people to block traffic and cause mayhem (as HE himself doesn't pay his own taxes, to the tune of $2 Million plus)!

The rank and file don't have an Al Sharpton, and if they did, then all hell would finally break loose, and this bullshit-extortion-racket would finally come to a grinding halt!

Until the Apocalypse then, it's 'Pay, Pay——until death ABSOLVES your way' (or does it?)?

Anonymous said...

If all tolls were the same and no free rides, we would have better traffic flow. Right now, folks drive longer to use the free crossings

It takes forever to get off the Queensboro Bridge. With all the development there, they should be made to pay for a transit hub that allows cleaner multi-level off-ramp looping interchange as well as merge the Queens Plaza and Queensboro Plaza subway stations.
