Bayside curb repairs taking forever

From the Times Ledger:

Three years after city snow plows destroyed the curb in front of All Saints Episcopal Church in Bayside, the Department of Transportation still has no plans to repair the damage, even after the intervention of a higher power — the neighborhood’s assemblyman.

During the series of blizzards in the winter of 2013–2014, snow plows from Department of Sanitation battered the curb by the church into gravel, grinding some sections down to little more than a sliver of rough concrete. All Saints, located at 214-33 40th Ave. reached out to state Assemblyman Edward Braunstein (D–Bayside), who spoke with DOT about repairing the curbs. The agency made him wait a year for a response.

“My office contacted the NYC Department of Transportation in 2014 regarding curbs that were damaged at All Saints Church by the Department of Sanitation,” Braunstein said. “On Feb. 13, 2015, DOT notified me that All Saints Church would be added to its ‘curb database for repair under a future curb repair contract.’ In light of the fact that the curbs were damaged by a city agency, DOT should commence with the repairs as soon as possible.”

But nearly two years after committing to fix the damage, the DOT has not yet scheduled repairs.

“NYC DOT is aware of the curb condition at this location, which has been added to the agency’s curb database for repair under a future curb repair contract when resources become available,” a DOT spokeswoman said.

So what? My street doesn't even have a proper sidewalk on its corner. The woman who owns the house with no sidewalk had asked the city years ago for a proper one but the city told her that it is her property and she is responsible for putting in a sidewalk. So all these years, there is no sidewalk there and just a hill of grass. The city doesn't even have sense to make a four way stop sign on my block or to put up speed bumps either like I had complained to the cb about. I wanted it because the way the streets are, if you come out with your car, you can't see because one part of the sidewalk comes out more than the other part of the sidewalk. It's just really bad and there have been a couple of accidents because of it but of course the city will never learn. The community board didn't even come here to inspect the street or anything like that after I complained to them about it and wrote the city dept about it.

One needs to explain that the crumbling curbs are a hazard to the cyclists and bike lanes are needed.

The city will be there in an instant...

The prevailing attitude from this city is the only way things get repaired or needs basic infrastructure improvements if it involves a B.I.D., usually in a currently niche area or an area where market speculators are devising unwarranted interest, which means anywhere in fucking Brooklyn. So even though this woman is waiting years to fix something caused by reckless incompetence, she has the misfortune of residing of all the way in Bayside, which according to our city planners when it comes to anywhere far from skyline views in Queens it's the equivalent to Borneo and gets conveniently overlooked and blatantly ignored.

If this was the time of King Solomon, this woman would have the right to take a sledgehammer and destroy the curbs at the homes at the appointed sellout hacks at the DOB, the worst fucking DOB in the nation slightly ahead of Oakland's.

How do you suppose those curbs get like that in the first place? Aside from normal wear and tear, it's the DSNY snow plows. Take a look at the medians on Union Turnpike and Bell Boulevard

Alas, my curb was profoundly damage in 2007, when the DOT repaved my street in Ozone Park, but never came back to fix the damage. I reached out to Community Board 10 (a worthless, pro-Addabbo empire of epic fail), my councilboy, Derelict Ulrich (puberty is STILL a decade away!), as well as my assemblyman Michael Miller (who is too fat to do anything but show up like 'The Blob' of political worthlessness that he is, for ANY and ALL photo ops with his pals, Addabbo and Ulrich), in between his dutiful attendance to church services, i order to show what a pious faud he is!

Now, I stil have the large chunks of heavy curb concrete that the DOT damaged (way back in October, 2007), so what does the City do??——Delay, Deny——And, Hope That You Die (where people actually HAVE died, whilst waiting for ANY government help, which is an illusion, as well as trust——which is for suckers)!

Meanwhile, this politically ravaged and tonsured City of New York is now fitted with a two-party-machine-failed 'KAKISTOCRACY' (government by the worst persons; a form of government in which the worst persons are in power), of Cognitive Dissonance,' as extreme taxation without representation continues to deprive our taxpaying citizenry of all pretnese of living standards for which even Third World countries are now rivaling in ways that continue to shame, dishonor and disgrace our soulless politicans (not public servants), to unprecedented effect, to date!

And, the public be eternally duped, bilked, scammed and damned! It's finally time to make ALL political corruption (and dereliction of public duty) a capital offense!

Anon no. 5. Alas, your dreams of capital punishment are why everyone takes your comments as seriously as they do.

Sorry, the money has to be spent on more important things like taking care of every illegal immigrant's needs and wants and sheltering the homeless from all over the world.

Agreed. Now that people are leaving NYS/NYC in droves, they need the voters to keep them in power.
Curb? What curb?

Warren Villhelm, JR (aka, NY cool name Bill de Blasio) is an understudy of Daniel Ortega, the Sandinista president of Nicaragua. His city is resembling Managua more every day.

Hey, there has been a gaping hole on the corner of Woodside and 74th for at least half a year now... hundreds of lil kiddies cross here every day (PS 12 is on the next block). I think the only way the city will ever address this (with more than a plank of broken wood) is if some tragedy happens, God forbid.
