Just trap them and relocate them. Why must we kill everything?
It is not their fault that where they came from was over developed. Already living here with possums and raccoons. The red tail hawks.
Must we kill it? The hawks are beautiful.

No trapped and then relocates, since that would be the humane thing to do. Maybe you should trap all the criminal element in Queens and euthanize them, because they sure are more than "pesky".

Hey I am waiting for the black bear to make it down here. Oh boy that would be something.
Maybe even the deer.
They already euthanized the Canadian geese for simply just flying around free as a bird.
You have water they will come. You have garbage the critters will come and where there is corruption you see them run and hide from the truth.

Who is going to trap the coyotes, the ACME Exterminator Company?

I'd like to trap some PA employees who made this decision and give them a few choice words... Nothing worse than a government agency with zero accountability to anyone.

Killing coyotes will only multiply geese.

Excuse me Port Authority ASSHOLES!!

We invaded their territory in the first place and fucked their current turf so they are just looking to make ends meet.

Trap them and relocate them. This is the US of A and we are in the 21st century. In a decade were our leaders are talking about protecting the environment you want to decimate wild life just by picking a phone in the comfort of your office in your over payed job with unionized benefits.

It will look hugely bad for our city and country that in the big apple authorities are not only making racially profiled killings but now they want to get rid of (WHACK) the coyotes, maybe because they appear to be illegals and of brownish skin.

Yes! relocate them.

It will help with some feral cats and unattended toddlers...

Good point, and the geese are far more of a nuisance and far more of a danger.

Kill the geese too

People just don't get it. Kill kill and kill.
Coyotes just looking for food and can not help it that their natural habitat is being over developed and they are forced into the cities.
Stop the over development.

Many thousands of coyotes , wolves, bears, deer and birds are killed each year to control their population on public lands. On top of that are the billions of animals that are killed each day to feed the human population. Humans being the top predator are good at killing. Man has always had to change the natural world for our needs and many species have suffered to extinction. Coyotes have lived with man for thousands of years and know us well and have thrived but I can see them being a problem.

"Man has always had to change the natural world for our needs and many species have suffered to extinction."

Wow. Just, wow.

Humankind has evolved over millennia. Our population has bottlenecked several times. Mass manipulation of our environment didn't begin until the agricultural and industrial revolutions.

Dominion over this planet is not the "right" of "man". In fact, men have just about brought it to the brink. Ocean life mass extinction. Water resource scarcity. On and on...

Maybe the women of this world will take over and change things. I'm looking forward to this new era. The ways of "man" don't work. All we do is destroy. Not afraid of a lady planet: A less aggressive world, less war, less environmental degredation.

The coyotes should be moved upstate, placed in in an area that is safe for them.

I am oft humored by those who have never taken a biology class, and cannot grasp nor understand: habitat, predators, prey, disease, starvation, reproductive rates, carrying capacity and balance of a certain tract of land.

Sounds a lot like "not in my back yard." Move the problem somewhere else.
We should move the homeless upstate also?

And how many of you, who are advocating for this relocation, actually relocate cockroaches, mice, cats, and rats???

""Just trap them and relocate them""

You cant !
Once they no longer fear people they are even MORE dangerous.
They will take your dog leash and all, a small child or attack you taking grocery's (meat products)out you trunk if hungry enough like a pack of small lions, especially when they need to feed pups.
When I was living in California I seen one eyeing the cat through the rear sliding door, they couldn't get to him so they hung around and dragged the neighbors pet pig over a 6 foot fence during a family BBQ. It was "like a raid" these animals didn't give a shit 2 dozen people were around, the loud music playing. They appeared darting through the peoples legs like pinball to get the pet pig and dragged it right over the 6 foot fence and into the hills. The neighbors young kids were traumatized.
--one of the worst smart sneaky predators you can have around. Eff wild Coyotes, they are only good looking cute on TV cartoons.

Our favorite god-fearing field biologist, sarc, explains the ways of nature.

Upstate NY Habitat: Federal and State protection throughout much of the Adirondacks and Catskills. Was recently considered for wolf reintroduction by DEC biologists. Was struck down by human fears and concerns, not lack of habitat. If wolves were considered for reintroduction, coyotes could assimilate to the area easily.

Predators: Mountain Lion(eastern cougar) has been extirpated from the entire east coast as of the early 1900's. A small remnant population in Florida could be gone in our lifetime. Unrestricted hunting, not disease or carrying capacity, was the reasons for this species demise. Wolves, once common in NY, are also perfunctory extinct on the east coast.

It's humanity and our lack of restraint that degrades the planet, not a nostalgic take on "natural balance". We have few natural areas left with keystone predators thriving.
