Kew Gardens tower jail already is a pain in the ass

NY Post

New York City is ramping up construction of a new jail in Queens as part of its plan to phase out problem-plagued Rikers Island — sparking outrage from residents, The Post has learned.

The presence of a lockup became more tangible for Kew Gardens locals recently when the Department of Design and Construction sent out a notice that it was restricting access to the area around Queens Borough Hall to lay the groundwork for the jail.

“We are upgrading the infrastructure in your community. These temporary access restrictions are necessary to facilitate preliminary work for the offset of a 48” Trunk Water Main for the Queens Borough Based Jail in the above-mentioned location,” the DDC said.

The community bulletin was a gut punch for many residents who said they don’t want their neighborhood to house accused criminals.

“I oppose the jail. It’s simply a safety issue,” said 31-year-old neighbor Michael Brocking.

Yan Lin, a mother of three boys ages 7 to 14, added: “We don’t need the criminal element around here.”

don’t like the jail. We have a good community. I love this community,” the concerned mom said.

Howard Cohn, a 75-year-old retired school teacher, said, “I don’t want to be living next to criminals.”

“A jail is going to lower the property values here,” he added.

Mayor Eric Adams had promised to deliver on former Mayor Bill de Blasio’s $8.3 billion plan to shutter Rikers Island’s troubled jail complex and replace it with four smaller, more humane high-rise lockups in each of the city’s boroughs but Staten Island.

Update:

This was found at one of the borough tower jails development site in Chinatown. The DDC is being quite defiantly defensive about what they are doing.

"Lower Property Values"

No Sh*t Queens.

But look on the positive side, your betters will soon enjoy an exclusive retreat at DeBlazio Island in the middle of the East River

Of all the stupid Progressive ideas shoved down our throats, this is among the craziest. Rikers is literally the best possible location for a prison. It's like a gift from God. So of course, we're going to throw it away. And none of this prison building is addressing how badly Rikers is currently run. So we'll take the same totally dysfunctional, corrupt, stupid system and split it across multiple locations. Yeah, that's gonna help.

This is people literally getting what they want. They should be extatic.

Yep. The criminals will get released from prison, go right into the subway, jump the turnstile and start their shit all over again. Heaven forbid if its a serial rapist or a pedophile being let out prison. This was a HUGE MISTAKE. And then what will happen if the prisoners decide to try to escape? You will have loud sirens going off in a residential neighborhood where people pay 2000 plus dollars a month to live. And what if they are successful getting out? They will just run into an apartment building around there and hide. This is a HUGE MISTAKE. And all of this to please some rich assholes who want to live on their own private island. We ALL KNOW that the "affordable housing" in nyc is a joke.

Dose NYC need more jails ?
Violent Perps are allowed to walk free within hours of their arrest — thanks to lax judges and the Marxist bail reform.

@NPC_doofus "Of all the stupid Progressive ideas shoved down our throats, this is among the craziest. Rikers is literally the best possible location for a prison. "

Rikers technically isn't a prison. Most of the inmates were there awaiting trial. Therefore, they are innocent until proven guilty.
I know you "freedoms" loving "tyranny" whining right wing crybabies really hate anybody to have any form of freedom, except for yourselves of course. But "innocent until proven guilty" is still an important component of any free society. You people cry about 'fake news' all the time. But whenever 'fake news' posts a mugshot of someone not yet convicted of a crime, you immediately jump on the "they're guilty 'cause their mug is on the news" bandwagon.

Double standards as usual from right wing nuts.

I didn't realize that Karl Marx was into bail reform. Please share where you go this?

A sure sign that prisons don't work and don't reform people. You would think, with all the medical and other scientific advances we could have come up with something better?

Rikers technically isn't a prison. Most of the inmates were there awaiting trial.

85% of them. 15% are imprisoned.

Therefore, they are innocent until proven guilty.

So what? And guess what Chico, the vast majority of them are guilty. And the vast majority of them will get next to nothing for punishment.

I know you "freedoms" loving "tyranny" whining right wing crybabies really hate anybody to have any form of freedom, except for yourselves of course.

You live in a weird, media-induced fantasy land full of cartoon conservatives.

But "innocent until proven guilty" is still an important component of any free society.

Except for white people, who are routinely accused of being racist with no evidence whatsoever.

You people cry about 'fake news' all the time.

Because so much of it is fake. It fools idiots like you though.

But whenever 'fake news' posts a mugshot of someone not yet convicted of a crime, you immediately jump on the "they're guilty 'cause their mug is on the news" bandwagon.

Again, because most of the time they are. Hell, now we often get pictures of them actually committing the crime, but I guess it's our white-devil racist eyes that see a crime being committed when, in fact, it's only equity working itself out or some other Progressive horseshit fantasia.

Double standards as usual from right wing nuts.

The double standards are entirely a figment of your fevered, vaccine damaged imagination.

But prison DO work by keeping people off the streets. Who cares if they "reform" people or not. The main way you "reform" someone by making them afraid of going back to prison.

You would think, with all the medical and other scientific advances we could have come up with something better?

Well, the death penalty works. Guaranteed 100% no chance of recidivism once you're dead.

You cannot read, no comprehension.

Please share where you go this?

You cannot write either. Your secretary has a day off?
Go search yourself.

Thank you, @NPC_Doofus and your fellow doofus( the one just before the ("It’s about time Kew Gardens gets their share.") Post.

You have done an excellent job reminding people just how dumb and nasty right wing fascists like yourselves really are.

@“NPC_doofus But prison DO work by keeping people off the streets.“

Well, you are still on the streets spreading Covid vaccine lies.

@NPC
I couldn't have said this better myself.
"Except for white people, who are routinely accused of being racist with no evidence whatsoever. "

The problem is, Mr/Ms./whatever NPC translator/doofus/whatever, is that you have posted plenty of racist and anti-Semitic pieces in the past. Including your previous handle, which the admin asked you to change as it was deemed anti-Semitic. The admin, has no issues with the racist parts, it seems.
Now, you can add cry-baby to your list of aliases.

No, not now. That kind of stuff was the TrumpTurds strategy.

Why do you have an issue with defunding people who do nothing but stare at a phone all day sitting inside an air-conditioned car ?

Like the ones you and your clone drone Bidet is supporting at the tune of $40 billion?
You are a useless eater anyway, Klaus is right you know. So is Harari.
