Shanty no more

AMNY

The omnipresent restaurant curbside sheds could become a thing of the past under the city’s plans to make the pandemic-era outdoor dining initiative permanent.

The Department of Transportation’s Open Restaurants Program director told the New York City Council that the curbside eateries will be less heavily-constructed than those that restaurant owners have built outside their establishments around the Five Boroughs.

“We don’t envision sheds in the permanent program, we’re not planning for that,” said Julie Schipper during the virtual Feb. 8 oversight hearing. “What would be in the roadway is barriers and tents or umbrellas, but not these full houses that you’re seeing in the street.”

The DOT rep said that the structures were no longer necessary because people don’t have to dine outside anymore like they did early on during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Something we saw over COVID is you cannot eat indoors and so you had to eat outside in all weather, but that won’t be the case going forward,” she said. “This program is really being planned for a post-COVID scenario where you can dine outside when that feels nice and comfortable but you won’t need to be in a house on a street.”

I'm up in the world,
but I'd give the world to be where I used to be,
A heavenly nest,
where I rest the best,
means more than the world to me.

It's only a shanty
in old Shanty Town
the roof is so slanty it touches the ground.
But my tumbled down shack by an old railroad track,
like a millionaire's mansion is calling me back.

Why do you ignoramuses eat in these shit-holes? Vote with your dollars and never go back to one of those restaurants again. But, oh, that's right, you're New Yorkers. Unless Biden mandates that you stop eating in them, you'll just blindly continue to support the shacks.

As Mark Twain said, 'Politicians and diapers must be changed often and for the same reasons.' With NYC Electurds we get both.

The last two years have not taught us all that much about how viruses behave, but it has taught us a great deal about how governments behave.

The greatest mystery of all is why anyone continues to willfully believe in the same corrupt government (of lobbyists, special interests and corporate obedient henchmen) that has continually polluted our water, poisoned our food and air, and has repeatedly lied to We, the People about the welfare of humanity, with impunity. I have permanently stopped voting because government is a disease masquerading as its own cure. By continuing to vote, it's an automatic death wish cycle that continually works to hasten the demise of the mass, hypnotic 'SHEEPLE'-accomplices who keep reinforcing the never-ending 'loop de dupe' in the first place (of the two-party-machine-failed duopoly disease-CULT), or in simpler parlance: PRIVATE SPLENDOR versus PUBLIC SQUALOR.

What so many on the left don't realize is that a lot of us were exactly where they are right now. Through careful analysis & listening to a wide variety of opinions, from experts & lay ppl alike, we've changed our minds on several issues. I've said my entire adult life that the greatest gift my parents gave me was an open-mind. Those who fail to see it are ALWAYS the ones who have serious problems with a closed mind & refuse to see that character flaw in themselves. C0VlD has brought out the worst in ppl, most noticeably on the left. I've yet to observe anyone yelling & screeching at someone for wearing a mask, but it happens the other way around all the time. The arguments remain the same: If YOU are wearing a mask, why does it matter if anyone else is? If YOU are vx'd why does it matter if someone is wearing a mask? Lastly, if you're SO worried about someone not wearing a mask, WHY do you get so close to them, then follow them throughout the entire store? ALL these things belie concern over a mask & point to petty tyranny. The same is true about demanding that ppl be tested 24-48 hours prior to certain events: This presupposes that they will NOT come in contact with anyone sick during the time tested & the event. That's a large supposition & impossible to guess. I could go on; however, you get it. A close friend was getting married & instituted strict protocols for anyone not vx'd, including those who had naturaI antibodies. We didn't go. NOT out of protest, but bc we knew if anyone got sick we'd get blamed. Sure enough, more than 25 ppl came down with it. Everyone was fully vx'd. They were SHOCKED. Some were seriously ill, even in ICU. I'm so glad we made the decision we did. These ppl are mindless sheep & refuse to watch or read ANYTHING that doesn't support their worldview. I used to pity them, but now I'm mad. They're vindictive & evil. They want to control us & they're WRONG.

The only one here that you are fooling is yourself. You couldn't distinguish Fake News from real news, even if it were happening before your worn out eyes. You are nothing more than a brainwashed disciple of Dr. NPC_doofus.

Sounds like a good compromised. No need for sheds, some rooftop should be there for rainy events, and barriers separating the road from outdoor dining. An annual seasonal application makes sense also.

Ah yes, that would be so much safer! Let's put even *less* of a barrier between us and the oncoming traffic that whizzes by while we eat our meals in the gutter where rats crawl around all night after the restaurant closes. Who cares that it takes up much-needed parking space in this city. Cars don't belong on our dirty streets - restaurant diners do!

I have never eaten in one of those things and never will.
