The MTA announced yesterday that it has completed another technological upgrade to the 7 line that it believes will result in faster and more reliable service.

The latest upgrade, called “Automatic Train Operation,” will see trains programmed to a provide optimal cruising speeds, acceleration and braking that will lead to evenly spaced service and smoother, faster trips, according to the MTA.

Operators will continue to instruct the train to depart a station, make sure that tracks are clear throughout the ride, and control emergency braking in the case of obstacles.

The 7 line is now the second train line to have the technology, after the L. All other lines rely on operators to control a train’s acceleration, cruising speed and braking.

“I am tremendously proud and excited to announce that New York City Transit train operators are now running the entire Flushing Line using automatic train operation, which will make trips smoother and faster for all our customers on that line” said NYC Transit President Andy Byford in a statement.

The latest 7-train upgrade comes just months after the completion of the signaling system called Communications Based Train Control (CBTC), which the MTA says has already led to dramatic increases in on-time performance and other metrics associated with good service.

OKAY. Can we now get cleaner trains and enforcement to deal with the dozens of unlicensed vendors selling stuff in around 74th street and all over Roosevelt Ave.

Ok, so more trains between Asian spitting Olympics.
How about more cops to enforce all the slobs breaking the law.
You think your in another fucking country on that 7 train!!

The STINK of underarm and other body odors is sometime so unbearable you have to get off on try another train.
Oh and THE GARBAGE !!
Ridership is more like god damned maggots. Actually, that's an insult to maggots. At least they clean up filth! Absolute rancid festering diseased FILTH who have earned my contempt and the contempt of all who are not ignorant altruists, who are barely a rung on the ladder in a swamp.
Eye sores disgusting and rancid who are another infection on society.

Ooh I get so mad!

Different culture, you just have to deal with what comes out of the melting pot

Great, now we have "Vision Zero" artificially slow speed limits for trains too, and not just for cars. NYC will never get anyone anywhere on time ever again.

As an engineer I'd really like to look at final project plans.
A lot of what I've read so far sounds impossible. The biggest problem on the 7 line is that there is only one track in each direction. If a train breaks down or is delayed for some reason all other trains going in that direction are screwed.
It's basic queuing theory.

Culture? or the lack of it?

The biggest problem for the 7 line - is from 1915. The Main street extension is from 1928.
We will be landing on Mars soon and we have this eyesore elevated track business for public transportation.
