Advocates come up with development & transit plan to make NYC less affordable

From the Daily News:

Imagine New York without its 24/7 subway system?

The experts at the Regional Plan Association did, and they believe it's key to building a reliable transit system for a growing metropolitan area.

The radical idea to snuff the pride of New York is one of dozens of recommendations in the research group's latest regional plan — the association's fourth region-wide blueprint since 1929 — being released Thursday.

“We think that the days of the 24/7 subway system in New York are coming to an end,” RPA president Tom Wright told reporters of the “controversial” idea.

Raise money through new taxes, like charging drivers to enter Manhattan’s business center, tolling major roads and highways, adopting a cap-and-trade program for emissions, and a tax based on vehicle-miles traveled. Build dense housing near transit stops throughout the region.

Extend subway lines around the city and build out overcrowded stations.

Create a regional rail network that allows trains to flow unimpeded through the tristate area, such as building a new facility south of Penn Station that could allow rail to bring travelers between Long Island and New Jersey without switching trains.

RPA is unveiling its full plan Thursday at The New School, with elected and government officials from around the region.

Wtf? They make BILLIONS of dollars per year. How about they cut the chairman of the MTA salaray and stop giving some of these useless employees so much unnecessary overtime. I remember a story on the news a while back where they caught the cleaning people just sitting down on the train and all they had to do was clean like half of each train. I have another idea, how about we deport all the illegals so it will make our trains run on time and faster and we won't need as many trains period. Half the population on the subway is illegals. Whoever said there are only one million illegals in this city, was sadly mistaken! This city is a HUGE MESS and SO CORRUPT!

Advocates and state and city officials to paying commuters from the working poor to the middle class: Get the fuck out of here.

They expect people to wait for the bus at night, even in inclement weather and freezing temps. These tone-deaf experts obviously have been using Uber too long.

I wonder if this plan is inspired by some crack pipe dream of a utopian city without crime with the upcoming neighborhood jails and unlimited bike sharing.

Fuck the RPA.

So far in the past month there have been stories about studies and prospective studies concerning NYCHA, the BQX and the decrepit ferries (I knew those boats weren't going to handle it). Which means millions of dollars have gone in the toilet over unrealistic and unsustainable city planning to remake the city for a particular collective liking. This is what happens when 79 percent don't show up to vote, because the 7 percent the mayor got is clearly celebrating now. This was the your in your city de Faustio campaigned on.

Don't you worry. The bike lanes are open 24/7! There's no reason you shouldn't be able to bike from the middle of Queens to Manhattan at 3 am in the rain and snow!

Aside from doing away with 24/7 subway service, their other proposals are actually quite reasonable.

More elitist Manhattanites trying to dictate how those in the four other boroughs live. Wanna bet this guy Wright is not even from NYC?

"Aside from doing away with 24/7 subway service, their other proposals are actually quite reasonable."

And those residing in Manhattan suffer none of the proposals consequences.

"To that end, RPA believes that closing the subway overnight from Monday through Thursday."

Yup. Screw those who must work the graveyard shifts and let the weekend revelers boogie on.

MTA receipts from fares = 9 Billion they get an additional 6 Billion from subsidies and special mta surcharge taxes business pay on payroll-

MTA Payroll and benefits alone = 9 Billion

many other major countries can pin point to the second when their trains will arrive.

this is going to be a major major problem going forward.

Check out the Regional Plan Association Board. How many of them use mass transit?

Another way to squeeze the working class and middle class out of this city, they don't want us here anyway, it doesn't fit in with their vision... we work for a living

Folks be leaving plenty. Most of my bus drivers live in Pennsylvenea. Cops live in Suffolk.

The Regional Plan Association's critics point out that their policies results in windfall real estate profits for downtown interests...

Why do we listen to these turds? RPA also supported the Cross Harbor Tunnel...

Hardly an unbiased group and who the hell asked them anyway?!

You got that backwards - its the slavish grovelling that the outer boroughs do when a politician walks into a room - that is the problem. There is not much you can do when a chunk of NYC with the area and population of Chicago spends their time hiding from the INS or thinking civic discourse is defined as exchanging innumerable pictures of the Hell Gate Bridge or Thai noddles with each other.

The problem is the stupid pols who are only good a being loyal to the boss sit down to negotiate with savvy business people. They are totally outclassed and give away the store.

Fr*kin idiots.

Did those idiots write this proposal with a straight face?

Visions of "Escape From New York". Isolate the golden isle of Manhattan. Build a wall to keep the outer borough barbarians out in this case instead of keeping prisoners in. Any comments, Snake Pliskin?

Ever since the Transit system accommodated a black management operation (undeserved and unearned, no less!), the whole system has suffered tremendously. I am a permanent NYC Transit employee, and a senior manager who passed my civil service test decades ago, and received the highest mark. Despite that, my black boss intentionally gave me a mediocre review, because my work was far superior to his (I had to write all of his in-house and outside memos, letters and correspondence, as well as covering for him in major meetings for which he didn't show; many times he would be at the movie theater on Fulton Street in the middle of the afternoon). My purported staff analyst (another lazy, unaccountable and uncensored black man), would banish himself to the janitor's closet every day after lunch, in order to bone up on his French for his upcoming trip to the French Riviera (these are REAL stories without embellishment of any kind)!

Blacks, on the other hand, many of whom were at the bottom of the lists for civil servant employment were given an automatic PASSING curve and promotion that bumped them WAY ahead of actual candidates whose rank was in the top ten percent, of whom I was one!

And, now you know the REAL reason why daily riders suffer at the hands of intensely unqualified people of color (as they refuse to work for a living, no matter what), and this has been going on for decades. There was a time when all of the top management used to be Jewish (what a shock!), and the peasants and clerical workers would be the colored people - until they started talking about unfairness and discrimination, which was absolute bull (they were always lazy, derelict and missing in action, and no one challenged them in management, fearing discrimination lawsuits).

There were days when I would walk into my office, and witnessing black secretaries refusing to help out in other departments, when called upon, in the Transit Authority's Finance Department, as I watched in horror as senior management would not even order them to work, but would walk away instead. Then, the work would be dumped on qualified white secretaries and PAA's, which caused hostility and resentment, as they watched their co-workers polishing their nails, gossiping and wasting time without productivity.

To my disbelief, there were also days when I would find these hardworking cases of Affirmative Action, with an entire broiled chicken on their desktops, and watermelon for dessert (please, stop laughing, it's ALL true!), and nary a word from anyone in top management positions - not even the Controller himself (once, he was offered a chicken leg, and politely declined)!

The problem started way before a Canadian born-and-raised President like David L. Gunn began his reign of incompetence in the early 1980s. Today, you are seeing the final damnation of a system that is strictly based on abuse of power, extreme incompetence (and rewarding the least qualified candidates with jobs that they could never even marginally execute), and profligate, wanton waste and mismanagement that has already crushed the system to outright dysfunction and pandemonium.

And, there is the Cold Light of Day truth, y'all. Enjoy your bike lanes and buses, y'all (compliments of Bill de BLASS-hole - speaking of extreme incompetence - and now criminal misconduct without prosecution, to boot)!

You need to video tape and document this and leak it to the NY Post, NYDN, or some other media outlet that loves sensationalizing these stories. There are whistleblower protections. You owe it to the people to do your part in exposing this. Otherwise you're just blowing hot air.

FIRST, I read the Regional Plan Association's recommendations for the subways. When I finished my eyes were like saucers.
SECOND, my response was: WHAT! What are they smoking, what opioids are they popping, and what planet are they from?
THIRD, I read Anonymous' comment: "Ever since the Transit system accommodated a black management operation (undeserved and unearned, no less!), the whole system has suffered tremendously."
FOURTH, his comments harkened me back to my corporate days when Affirmative Action took over the workplace and management made it known that "you were only as good as your last assignment" meaning, screw up and you're history. EXCEPT for the blacks. Whites had to pick up the slack but EVERYONE still got a 5% raise.
FIFTH: Looks like I'll be labeled racist but I don't care because the truth is the truth and I'm not the only one who noticed.

Anonymous, thank you for sharing.

Why doesn't your ass go back to where you come from?? Illegals are not needed or wanted here... I would rather pay 1/pound more for my fruit so it can be picked by a citizen and mow my own damn lawn or pay a CITIZEN to do it! I would rather pay more to be served by CITIZENS! IM TIRED OF PAYING FOR ILLEGALS WELFARE AND SUFFERING ON THE SUBWAYS BECAUSE THEY OVERCROWD THIS CITY! GO HOME ILLEGALS!!

Well I checked out the RPA's board of directors and you can too

http://www.rpa.org/about/board-of-directors

suffice it to say it's what you'd expect it to be...real estate folks, a former governor or new jersey, and mostly Manhattanites who could care less about those in the outer boroughs and those who actually rely on mass transit to get to those things known as jobs

So how do transit workers get to work??

"So how do transit workers get to work?

clicking their heels and thinking good thoughts.

You know what's funny about this "group" is that they tout their history spanning close to a century but haven't recommended anything constructive since who knows when.

This morning CBS and Ms. Kramer did a report of de Faustio's reaction and it was hysterical in it's insincerity and dishonesty. The kicker was that he ended his statement of keeping the transit system open all hours was that "we have to fix what we got". That was Bo Deitl's idea for keeping Rikers open and maintained, but I think it applies here. For this dumbass mayor has no original ideas or can come up with one himself.

NYC averages 5.7 million transit riders a day.
NYC has an estimated 600,000 undocumented people.

That is not half. Jesus, if are going to say something at least know what "half" means.

Can't wait for Trump to send his team to manage NYC. That is pretty much the impression you get from reading these comments.

Ask your self where does the RPA get their money from to pay Tom Wright's
salary. Ask yourself who is Tom Wright and how did he get this job. None of the RPA employees even in NYC with the exception of the junior staff, some live in Astoria because well, RPA made it so very cool.

I am pretty sure that Tom lives in Connecticut or somewhere safe, green and leafy well outside of NYC. If you ask yourself these questions you will get the answers as to why they make bizarre recommendations.

The subways are filthy, dirty and dangerous. Why isn't the RPA advocating for surveillance cameras on the subway trains? Tom Wright only rides it for 15 minutes to get from his office on Irving Place to Penn Station.

Fine fine fine-- don't shut down the system for maintenance every night like every other system in the galaxy. Raise the fare to 25-- no 35-- bucks a swipe and continue with the yearly decline in service. I'm sure you're all right.

Fair enough, you're just a raging delusional lunatic who is off his meds then. There are no 'millions' of illegals here, and certainly not millions of illegals on welfare. You literally have no facts to back up your statements. All you have are your half wit racist observations.

By the way, I was born and raised here. I might even be older than you.

Get back on your meds you triggered white nationalist dotard. Or better yet move out of NYC and go live in Alabama where you belong. We don't tolerate stupid here.

So tolerant. So progressive.

As it just so happens, a great many justifiably fed up NY'ers are moving to red states to get away from you bunch of musketeers and your "purge" of anything male and white. So we'll move to places where we are welcome. That's all. Enjoy the Bolshevik petri dish you're swimming in. I'm sure your elitist friends won't turn on you and accuse you of sexism/racism like they have done with everyone else.

Tootles.
