Public is subsidizing apartments for the well off

From the Daily News:

When David Sans applied for a $722-a-month two-bedroom in a luxury Manhattan apartment tower that includes taxpayer-subsidized affordable units, he claimed a full-time salary of $24,745.

At the time, however, records Sans filed as a registered stockbroker listed him working full-time for securities firms as an investment banker specializing in health care companies.

When he came up for recertification to continue living in his ninth floor low-rent aerie, he now provided a 2012 tax form showing his income had suddenly jumped to $238,000.

The next year, Sans — who added a second job as a top executive at Mount Sinai Hospital three months after snagging his low-income apartment — reported an income of $456,502.

Sans’ sweet housing deal surfaced in an audit released last week by state Controller Thomas DiNapoli that looked at how tenants with six-figure incomes are able to obtain “affordable” apartments subsidized by the public.

DiNapoli found that as of December 2015, 160 tenants living in affordable units in New York City were making $100,000 or more, with eight making $250,000 or more.

Mixed feelings on this. Half of me hates him, but the other half says you go boy! Shows the folly of expecting Government to manage and control these things. Cant be done. It will take years to get him out at this point.

I'm not sure why nobody is investigating what appears to be social security fraud. He used two fake SS #s to show that h had dependents so he could qualify for the apartment. His next home should be jail.

End rent regulations now! End subsidies like this now! A free market will eliminate all this nonsense, eliminate fraud, etc. The only thing government should be involved in is tenant safety.

This makes my blood boil. I'm 67 years old, worked as a City Civil Servant for 37 years, and retired in 2012. I've never asked anyone for a dime. Always played it straight and narrow. The only assistance I ever received was a couple of unemployment checks years ago. And now I read this article and I can't help but wonder if was all worth it. And yet I'm happy because no one can ever say anything behind my back about me.

This is the problem with subsidies. No one ever comes off. The idea they would pay the full cost once they are doing better is just not an option.

The suckers... I mean taxpayers will foot the bill.

People can say things about you behind your back pretty easily. I just did it.

I wonder if this lowlife bastard was able to charm building management and city officials because he looks like a hipshit.

Regardless of that, if this welfare cheat wasn't a white and preposterously dressed fool, he would be in jail right now. There was actually a black guy that did the same thing, but he got caught using airbnb.

I know a guy that is wealthy, owns a couple houses, lots of land and even a place in Europe. He was able to get an apartment in a high rise in lower Manhattan because he had a low paying civil service job. When he got in he bought the next apartment and was able to combine them into one large apartment and all is legal as long as he keeps the low paying job.
It's the same with Medicaid, a friend's husband died and she has a nice house in Glen Cove and lots of money but she only worked low paying jobs. She gets free medical and dental. They only go by your earnings on your tax statements not what you own.

It's not legal if he has rental income from the other apartments that put him over the limit.
