Woodside crap developer seeks variance extension

Developers who had a Woodside Avenue project approved against the community’s wishes several years ago are now asking for help to push back their construction deadline.

The Board of Standards and Appeals gave the go-ahead to a development company to construct a seven-story, 27-unit apartment complex at 64-01 Woodside Ave. in 2011, overcoming the objections of Community Board 2 and Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer.

Joe Conley, who was chairman of Community Board 2 at the time, said that a one-family house was torn down in order for the seven-story development to proceed.

Last week, a representative for the developer went before CB 2’s Land Use Committee and said the builder ran out of time completing the project and is seeking the approval of the BSA to grant it an extension so it could get a certificate of occupancy.

The Board was not sympathetic given the project’s storied history.


It actually was a warehouse-turned-church that was torn down. This crap sits right on top of what may be the historic Shaw Hotel, which surprisingly has been renovated and not demolished.

It's all about how many people you can cram into one piece of real estate.
The more that you can, the more profit there is to be made.
Maximize your investments. Isn't that the American way?

In other words...the Wild West of development.
Manhattan was like that once in about the seventeenth to eighteenth centuries.

The problem is that tgese crappy shady developers are trying to turn every small neighborhood into tge next Williamsburg. Whats wrong with fixing an old property and modernizing it? It raises property values and forces other landlords to do the sane. Neighborhoods in turn look better and maintain tge classic look.

The problem with woodside is not enough noise by the community. That building is an eyesore for some, but its out of the way behind the lirr tracks an would fit in as a coop condo.

Now lets stop the gentrification that will come soon!

Brick box bee hive cells with balconies , where the drones can sleep before returning to work next morning.
Repeat, repeat, repeat, the cycle. Jail cells without bars. What a way to live. Is that really living? Show me the after life.

It was a fake Korean church with a bizarre statue outside. Connected with that church on 61st Street. They had a garage across the street, that was torn down and a condo built there. The fair market housing being built all over Woodside is Koreans or Chinese.

that's not the Shaw Hotel. IT's where the Mexican Volley ball empire is by the intersection of the LIRR tracks and the #7 tracks on 39th Avenue.

The balconies are the only part of that building that aren't ugly and keep it from being one giant box. Why is that the part commenters seem to have a problem with?
