Fire destroys house under construction in Forest Hills

From NBC:

Firefighters were battling a blaze that engulfed a house under construction and spread to adjacent homes in Queens, officials said.

The fire started at about 7:30 p.m. Sunday in an unoccupied building under construction on 112th Street in Flushing, according to FDNY Chief Brendan McSweeny. The structure was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.

The fire spread to two neighboring homes and caused significant damage, McSweeny told NBC 4 New York. One of the homes was occupied, but everyone inside managed to escape unharmed, he said.

The other home was unoccupied.

From DNA Info:

Sources said the fire was considered suspicious because of the large volume of flames, but an FDNY spokesman said Monday morning that the cause of the fire was still under investigation.

The house that originally caught fire totally collapsed, according to the DOB, and the agency placed a full vacate order on the two other damaged buildings.

The residents of the affected homes were relocated, according to the DOB.

Another fire tonight in that neighborhood. What is that, 3 or 4 fires in vacant buildings in the last month?
