Eyesore at Alley Pond

Hi Crappie, please post this photo and help me get some support for both a garbage corral and a better location for this garbage dumpster at the park. Presently the dumpster is located at 79-20 Winchester Blvd at the entrance to Alley Pond Park. It's the first thing you see when you enter the park. Why would the Parks Department want their garbage dumpster located within feet from the main entrance to the park? This dumpster has been an ongoing issue for years. It's an easy fix. They just have to spend a small amount of our money and build a corral to hide the overflowing garbage can. Thank you.

A common sight in the ghetto....where the refuse is not even contained.
Poor bucolic Queens' image....ruined by an overflowing dumpster.
Wah, wah , wah. What about the rats feasting off of organic waste in Flooshing?

"Why would the Parks Department want their garbage dumpster located within feet from the main entrance to the park?"….So Sanitation does not waste more time driving into a secluded section of the park.

Sanitation does not remove garbage from city parks. Parks has their own garbage trucks for that. Furthermore, Alley Pond has huge parking lots where a corral could be built and the dumpsters hidden from view inside. McDonald's does a better job of hiding their trash than NYCDPR.

I'm amazed that the trash is in the dumpster...

Thank You for your support Crappie,
You are 100% right. They do pick up their own garbage and they do have plenty of area out of the way for a garbage corral. Hopefully between this post and maybe a couple of phone calls from other people. Someone in parks might listen and spend some money on a much needed solution to a problem that can easily be fixed.

Easy fix for a private company and maybe $3000.00 for the corral
NYC Parks will problably charge the people of New York around $250.000.00 and it will take years to complete.

The parks department is full of incompetents, starting for the panel that interview new hires at the Olmsted center passing by the temps that walk around pretending to be busy to the management.

The Parks & Recreation sitcom like The Sopranos series dignifies hoodlums and lazy basterds.

The parks dept. employees used to be called "parkies" denoting a group of civil service lifers that couldn't get a decent job elsewhere.

The image is certainly counterproductive.
An overstuffed dumpster welcoming us to a peaceful rest in the park.
I'll bet it smells great on a warm summer day.
Could you imagine the Metropoltan Musem of Art having a dumpster at the foot of their grand exterior staircase?
Only in Queens!
