Headed for Demo-ville?

Broadway Flushing...vacant for years...awaiting a tear down? Without municipal historic district status...this is the fate of Broadway in about 4 years. Councilman Paul Vallone seems to show no interest in supporting the majority of Broadway residents desire for landmark status. Once again...Senator Tony Avella will have to be doing Vallone's job.

Signed....Jerry Rotondi...a BFHA member's personal observation. I DO NOT SPEAK FOR THE ASSOCIATION.

Meanwhile there's another Broadway-Flushing house on the market, but this one will stay as is because the owner put a deed restriction on it.

Landmarking would be the only thing to save Broadway-Flushing.

Intresting that there is the 50th Anniversary Celebration on the Landmarks Law in NYC. The other boroughs are well into the celebration.

In Queens? That beep only wants the historical societies involved, kids programs (send us your historic picture and write an essay about it).

Civics need not apply. Your community's horror story need not sully the air. Stories like this are best kept in Queens Crap.

The self-appointed Queens Preservation Council meets to determine what should be landmarked, and then sits down with higher-ups to discuss with them what THEY think is important and worthy in YOUR neighborhood.

Meanwhile, Queens Historical Society is doing, well, what ARE they doing? Except coming up with ways to find support (read attention and funding) in YOUR community for, well, its not clear except to be the self appointed 'official' spokesman for the borough aided and abetted by their good friends at Queens Borough Hall.

Its clear that Queens needs a reset 'cause our leadership from the electeds on down are not doing their jobs.

Well, councilman Vallone, will you support a municipal landmark district for Broadway....as its residents overwhelmingly have supported...or will you continue waffling on the issue? Will senator Avella have to do that job for you?

LOL! Don' t you mean the Queens Hysterical Society? As long as they behave like good little boys and girls their borough hall funding is assured. Blackmail, blackmail, blackmail. Who's got the stones to stand up to a corrupt borough hall that is in league with overdevelopment? This is the land of Archie Bunker and The King of Queens. Those two TV shows nailed it . We are seen the borough of boobs, and I don't mean tits! Lethargical, sleepy time Queens has become the butt of every joke in metropolitan New York. Why? Queens is fulfilling its self fulfilling prophecy, to be a third rate borough.

P.S.
Councilman Vallone...my wife asked you years ago if you would support the creation of a historic district for Broadway. Your answer was, "Yes, if the residents want it". Yes....surveys were completed. They want it. So what is holding you up? Is your loyalty reserved for your developer clients or your constituents? Try lobbying for Broadway residents. Isn't that the job the voters hired you to do? Note: You work for us or you get fired next time around.

With a borough of wimps no wonder Queens voters have no power over their quality of life. You have relinquished your power to crooked politicians by continually kissing their asses in hope for table scraps for your nabes. Predigested food...or SHIT....is what you'll get. Pass the ketchup please. Let's try and make our dinner a little more palatable.

More Vallone-y baloney. That's what you'll get from Don Paulo. Maybe he'll stroke his bald pate...a nervous reaction...whenever he's put on the spot.

LOL! RU kidding? BFHA has no balls left. The org was emasculated years ago. These polite planners of tea parties are not accustomed to down and dirty trench fighting. They will lose their stately homes , one by one. They will be replaced by blank brick boxes. Better learn to "go not gently into that sweet darkness". Drag that lazy councilman out by his short hairs . MAKE him work for you. Fear not. What can he do that's worse than what he has already done by his neglect? Grow a pair back!

Urge that parochially polite St. Andrew's mom's crew at BFHA to toughen up and learn some war tactics. That is what it now takes to save Broadway. Juniper Valley Civic could teach them a few things. They stand fast...two fisted if necessary.

Where is that house?

I'd also like to know, since I don't recall seeing that house in the neighborhood.

Jerry Rotondi said...

Sorry for omitting the location. The house is located on the west side of 167th Street and south of 35th Avenue. Further down 176th Street towards Crocheron is a construction fence around another house. A side extension is being added here. There are many more tear downs or tasteless alterations in progress throughout Broadway. BFHA's legal defense treasury is down to about a third of what it used to be. How many more defenses of the Rickert Finlay covenant can the association afford? A landmark district is THE ONLY guaranteed protection for this fine residential neighborhood before it becomes Mc Mansionville. Move on it quickly. Only a few years are left before it is gone!

Maybe if you do not recall seeing this house in your neighborhood you are leading a life that is too isolated. Get out and walk your neighborhood, if you can. Staying sequestered on your block leaves you ignorant of what is going on. Unless your attitude is, if it's not in my backyard or block, it will not affect me. Wrong!

Number one priority in Broadway is to see this deserving national historic district neighborhood attain municipal landmark status. Everything else is secondary. It is nice to have spring flower judging...how twee...or bronze pride plaques affixed to some homes. Those tablets mean nothing. Spinning wheels and wasting valuable time is what they are all about. These are ersatz pleadings to respect our architectural heritage. Only the official LPC plaque can do that.

That house is on 167th street about 3 houses south from the 35th ave/167th street intersection. (right near The Church on The Hill) I walk by it all the time coming home from work. It use to be overgrown with so many trees and bushes that you could barely see the house. Before they boarded it up (about a year ago, there was always one light on at night. Looked creepy but cool. Reminded me of a haunted house.

LOL! RU kidding? BFHA has no balls
------------------------------
You forgot to take your meds today. BFHA is one of the hardest working organizations. We are constantly following up on illegal construction with DOB and elected officials and getting it corrected.

We attend rallys and spoke on your behalf when the city wanted to upzone, we also spoke on your behalf, when the city wanted to change the district boundaries and put half of BFHA Area in the same district group as downtown Flushing. We've had two major lawsuits and won both of them. We have enforced the covenant successfully for over 50 years, and none of it happened at a tea party.

Beyond our hard work, BFHA needs members. Are you a member? What have you done for your neighborhood association.

If people put their pen and their money where their mouths are, we would have a lot more members and a lot more power.

We alone can't get the neighborhood Landmarked, we need all the residents to speak up and demand Landmarking. We need support.

Why don't you join and come help us. You seem to know it all.

A plywood construction fence has been erected around the house located on the northwest corner of 160th street and 33rd avenue.

Another teardown of a nice old house.

Janet, I know you are a hard worker. There are a few others that keep their heads in the sand. Since you are of the female gender , I did not say the obvious.

Jerry Rotondi said...

Brava, Janet!

Thank you, Janet - your comments only begin to list all the work over the last 50 years that has been been accomplished by volunteers in the Broadway-Flushing community. Homeowners in Broadway-Flushing know when to have balls (100% successful litigation!) and when to arrange welcoming teas. I consider it a privilege to volunteer for my community. Advice to the misinformed hater: roll up your sleeves, take out your checkbook, and do something worthwhile instead of wasting everyone's time and embarrassing yourself.

Ooh, that "hater" really struck a nerve!

I've already donated time and money. Move your ass and grow a pair instead of kissing Vallone's pair. Now, wouldn't you all like to know my identity?

Yes, our lawyers have broken their lawyer's balls, 100% of the time in court. Litigation-castration is much more effective than flailing and screaming and ranting. Vent your anger at your shrink, hater.

I think that the BFHA message has been sent out successfully to developer rapists over the years. " You will not have your way with us"! Don!t tread on my nabe!

Whoa, look at all those comments and counter comments. Save that energy and surround councilman Vallone's home for doing as little as possible to improve Broadway.

That SOB lives here and he is anti preservation. He's a lobbyist for the building industry. The Vallones ruined Astoria then moved on. RU following this Don Paulie?

What a Chooch he is.Like a deer caught in the headlights....all he can do is stroke his dome....strike a Mussollini like pose, and grin.

An empty head makes for a blank expression. He is definitely the dumbest of the Vallone sons.
