Unchain the tree!

"I came across this tree problem on Putnam Ave near Stier Place in Ridgewood recently. It looked very wrong, so I filed a 311 complaint. This was the response:

Service Request #: C1-1-980734325
Date Submitted: 06/15/14 11:18:07 PM
Request Type: Illegal Tree Damage
Details: Roots Damaged
Your Service Request was closed.
The condition was inspected and it was determined that no work order was necessary. The condition will not be inspected again for at least 90 days.

I don't get it. Parks didn't notice a problem here?" - Christina Wilkinson

An outrage! Do your job, Parks Forestry Division!

Oh boy, that tree could topple over with the roots so high above ground.

Anyone know the exact address of this? Please post!

The roots seem to be above ground, so the tree would have to be enclosed in some fashion to keep it from toppling, no matter what.

Tree guards are usually the total responsibility of the homeowner. How about we start knocking on the homeowner's door?

Let's give the Parks Department a few days- I'm sure they're working their magic.

It's actually quite arresting to see, even beautiful. I'm not an arborist and don't know whether the tree is suffering any more than other street trees. I live nearby and would be sad to see it go.
