Pavement not built to last

"Both 150 Street and 149 Street were re paved in November 2010 and April 2011, respectively. But the areas around many of the manholes were not flush. So DOT chopped up 3 foot squares around them and threw down some cold patch asphalt. As we all know cold patch is not smooth, and does not last. So they keep going back constantly throw down a shovel or two of more cold patch. They need to use hot asphalt and hot tar for the seems and where it meets anything like utility grates and manhole covers.

What happened to that "miracle machine DOT touted last year on the news, which fixes pot holes and sections of asphalt road repairs that are flat, smooth and are supposed to last." - Frustrated in Flushing

Same problem on Queens Blvd.....a thousand-fold.

Not only that, but on my block in North Flushing the street was repaved raising the street above the curb.
Now uncaring drivers park a wheel or two on the grass causing erosion.
My driveway at the street now fills up with rain water. To top it off my once beautiful Belgium block curb is disappearing one pave at a time.

DOT really sucks, get a private company to do the work.

A private contractor paved large sections of the Major Deegan last year, they did a a great job.How about hiring them to finish the GCP?

I just put in a 311 online request to repair the street around the manhole covers on Fleet and also on 70th Ave in Forest Hills bc they're all broken. I get a response from DOT that they're forwarding it to the DEP (Dept Environmental Protection). Wha????

That's just dandy, except that an elevated highway with heavy truck traffic need to be build of reinforced concrete or it will be a pothole ridden uneven mess within a year or two. Despite the great job, it still wasn't done right by the city.

DEP oversees sewer, catch basin, and manhole covers...not DOT.

What part of GCP?

And DEP? I can't believe DEP is assigned to do road repairs of asphalt just bc its near a manhole or utility grate. I mean its DOT that repaves the entire street roadways near and away from manholes etc, as we've all seen them when they place the higher collars to raise the roadbed height, unfortunately.

Yes, I agree with your road pavement job on your block and how its now raised above the cobblestone curb. I was there that day, at the Avella press conference. I can't believe how careless negligence they do their road paving. Funny thing today, DOT came by during the snow stirm and replaced some no parking signs on my "street" which I did not report, rehung dangling street nd ave signs on telephone pole I did report, but didn't replace a torn and twisted No Parking sign on the Ave which I did report. He was right there looking at it. I have been including photos with all 311 svc requests. I tried getting his attention but drove off. I made another 311 request immediately. Let's see how they respond.

DOT's update, March 14, to my request on this posted issue 'they asked DEP to address the issue' on both 150th Street and 149th Street and closed the service request. Let's see if DEP does anything to correct this issue.
