Parking placard perk ends for CB members

From the NY Post:

Community board leaders are fuming that Mayor Bloomberg is about to yank their parking placards.

On Feb. 1, the city is planning to eliminate a precious perk that New York’s 59 community-board chairs have enjoyed for years — a pass that lets them park anywhere for free for three hours.

The board leaders are not ready to give up their treasured passes quietly.

“They got my service for 28 years. I think it’s quite insulting, whoever made this decision,” said Queens Community Board 7 Chair Gene Kelty.

“When the city asks me to come into the city [for a meeting], I’m not coming in,” he said. “You can send a car or I’m not coming in.”

While the passes are being nixed for volunteer board leaders, paid district managers will keep theirs.

Give them bikes instead ! :-)

Yank their parking privileges - they can quit. Yank all city employees free parking too - they can do as the private sector does.

Too bad....

They've been yanking our chain for years at CB#7.

Now Gene will have to drive around for hours...trying to find a parking spot in beautiful overcrowded downtown Flushing...when he wants to stop for a quick one at Kelly's bar!

He could always put his FDNY placard behind the windshield of his car...can't he?

HA, HA, HA!
The "big cheese" loses his parking privileges!

Mayor Mike could save NYC even more money if he DUMPS all community boards.

They're all show...without any real power...
so who the hell really needs them?

GEEZ!
I hope Gene doesn't have to climb a ladder anymore!

So that's why Gene Kelty has hung on as chair of CB 7 for all of these years. It's been for the parking perks.

So, how does it feel
to get booty fucked like the rest of us, Gene?

And CB#7 approved of doing away with Muni Lot#1 so that TDC Rockefeller could build over it!

Join us in the hurt locker, you blowhard.

Can't firemen ride the subways and buses for free?

Someone had better carry a few sand bags for ballast.
That hot air balloon looks like its ready to take off.

Maybe CB#7 should reconsider building a blimp port at the old Flushing air field.

"Around the world I search for booze".

you'd think it would be the opposite, the unpaid chair members get transportation perks while the ones drawing a check have to pay to commute to work.

Does he get a salary for being CB7 Chair? in addition to the Fire Dept. salary?

Wow, Gene would have to walk a block. Oh the humanity!

This is what happens Gene when you ignore the constituency. A better idea would be to abolish these worthless boards altogether.

CB's suck (I'm on one), but some suck a LOT more than others. But they are one of very few places where the public gets a voice. Sure, that can be pissing into the wind, but not always. And if you can build support, CB's can be a great place to publicly force politicians and larger than life developers and other monoliths into doing something. While you're accepting some level of mediocrity, you are at least getting something positive out of the CB's. Abolishing them leaves you with nothing. And like I said... some are better than others, because they are very diverse. If anything, we should push for ways to strengthen CB's while at the same time, subject them to greater scrutiny as true representatives of local majority public intent.
We need more gov't. policy originating from the NABES.

At least there is some good news once in a while. I guess this means Kelty is resigning, right? Two birds with one stone.

So either step down from your position or suck it up and take public transportation like the rest of us, you damn pansy!

Great attitude Gene.
Take public transport. Lose some weight.
If you don't like it then FUCKIN' RESIGN!

Who the hell does he think he is, royalty?
His ego is bigger than his belly.

Maybe Marilyn Bitterman could take some of the $95,000 she makes each year,
and spring for a limo for Kelty.

These spoiled jerks at CB#7 are too much to bear.

How come Community Board 11 serves food to their board members during their meeting? while the community members in attendance get to watch.

Anonymous said...

Who cares about the food they eat at CB11. I want to know why they don't recite the pledge before the meeting.

Anonymous said...

A bunch of redundant dead weight with too much time on their hands.

CB 11....mostly closeted Pinko Commies.
That's why they don't recite "The Plegde".

The public has no voice at the Community Boards, its all inside. Getting rid of them would put the responsibility back where it belongs, back on our ELECTED officials. We dont need the CB's to give us the right to lobby, which we already have.
