$2M crapper is finally open!

From the Daily News:

The long-awaited comfort station at Elmhurst Park, with its edgy design and spacious bathrooms, has finally opened its doors. And local civic leaders say its better suited for a museum than a busy Queens park.

"This breaks all the rules of form follows function,” said Robert Holden of the Juniper Park Civic Association as he stood outside the building on Tuesday. “There’s an obscene amount of wasted space here. Shouldn’t this money go to pay for more cops or for more parks maintenance?"

Inside the cavernous men’s side, just two urinals and two sinks take up the outer area. There is a single toilet in a handicapped-accessible stall. Lime green and white tiles line the walls in a funky, geometric pattern.

The women’s room features three stalls including one that is handicapped-accessible and two sinks. Its walls have a similar pattern in orange and white tiles. Each room has a diaper changing table built into the wall.

Back when it was initially approved in 2010, the price tag for the comfort station was $1.9 million. It has since ballooned to about $2.3 million.

Will this now discourage the illegal mexicans in the area from pissing on the sidewalks and in peoples' driveways?

It even looks like a giant crapper! How did the city do it?

That's a nice park and all, but sometimes I wonder why, exactly, they had to build a fifty-foot hill of earth over the old tanks. Oh, wait...

Great drug dealing HQ with spacious stalls for sex services. Or sleeping/washing quarters for the illegals & homeless - thanks a lot!

Give me a break 4 x port a potties maintained by a private Co would have been the answer. So a Parkie has to clean this giant facility instead of worrying about the grounds and garbage. Already the Park is open 24x7 - never locked - com on folks - whos kidding who?

The capital budget in everything in Queens is totally out of control - look at the library, for example, cutting back on hours, staff, services while one block buster project after another rolls out.

Queens is controlled by developers - they sit on our business councils, our civic groups, our community boards, our cultural institutions.

Wake up people!!

Within 6 months it will be filthy and broken.

I give this piss stop about six months before it's destroyed.
Those tiles will be broken and turned into nice slicing weapons once the new school opens at 74th and 57th.

Parks can't handle the load as it's is, how will they maintain this park and comfort station?

They can't like putting in more development and having the schools try to educate, or bigger libraries and cut back on staff.

Its called honest graft, and someone got your taxes.

The bill of goods you get for keeping your mouth shut and being sickly sweet and polite around the pols.

The NYC Parks Department: Function follows form and let's see how much money we can waste in the process.
