Astoria afire!

MYFOXNY.COM - There were reports of a fire Monday afternoon in a section of Queens along the East River.

Steven Randolph snapped a photo and submitted it to MyFoxNY.com through the MyFoxNY iPhone app.

He said that the fire appeared to be in Astoria on 30th Ave.

The FDNY confirmed that a 1 story factory building was on fire and the fire had gone to two alarms.

No other details were immediately available.

Oh I hope it's not Costco - the only worthwhile place in that section of Astoria.

Hopefully one of those new buildings under construction is on fire. I saw one with a construction Hilo and operator work alone on a Sunday blocking 1/2 of 21 Ave without a safety flag man managing traffic around him. He was lifting heavey steel plates to the 3rd floor level and could have easily tipped over. Where is the NYC DOB?

Really, moron? There are furniture factories, marble crafters, glass crafters, etc., many of which have been there for decades, or even more than a century. I'd hate for a big box store like Costco to have to rebuild. I don't know how on Earth they'd do it. Did you even read the headline? "Queens Factory Fire" Factory. Costco isn't a factory, nor are any of those new buildings you're hoping for.

A very tragic fire in that area on Father's Day a few weeks before 9/11/2001. Three firefighters died in that factory fire.

I was there, it was huge. A one story factory, which i was told had just gone out of biz a week or two ago, burned down. It was a furniture refinisher, so lots of wood and toxic chemicals like varnish. Huge deployment by FDNY, brass- mobile command posts, several ladders and engines companies as well as a pumper truck.
Oddly enough, it was one of the holdouts on a block surrounded by tear down lots awaiting development. Across the street from Socrates, Vernon and Bway area.

Jewish lightning.

Maybe it's Serbian lightning.

If it was 10 years ago, it would have been Greek lightning.

Greek lightning? You mean what happened to the Gothic Cabinet plant on 1st street?
