What Ridgewood needs is a drug counseling center

From the Queens Courier:

JNS Counseling Services, Inc. told residents of Community Board 5 (CB) that it plans to open a substance abuse counseling site in their area.

“Everything will be funded by [JNS Brooklyn medical director] Dr. [Susan] Levit and myself,” program director Ertuania Jorge said to residents on Wednesday evening, October 13. “All we need at this point is your support.”

JNS will propose its plan to open the center, located at 752 Onderdonk Avenue in Ridgewood, to the Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS). The site is currently occupied by a medical center that has been vacant for years.

“This is a community we want to serve because every other community has programs,” Jorge said. “There are currently programs in Forest Hills and Rego Park. In Queens, if you go to every single neighborhood they have a program. Ridgewood doesn’t have a program.”

Wow, what a crock of shit. Show me the drug treatment program in Middle Village or Douglaston.

Open up a drug treatment center and the addicts will come.

Unfortunately, I think there are enough local residents to attend a Drug Program. Since my kids have attended local schools I have started to realize how may parents are addicted to drugs, especially the kind you can purchase legally.
Very sad and scary at the same time.

"Unfortunately, I think there are enough local residents to attend a Drug Program."

yeah - you're right - Ridgewood is a Republican town I believe.

Crappy, I would think that you would want to get help for addicts. why are you against this mental health clinic? Is it a methadone clinic or just talking therapy?

The clinic includes "medical care" which could mean a methadone program.

Crappy why do you hate minorities, drug addicts and the working class? It's hard out there right now. Times are as tough as they've been in quite a while. Try compassion.

I don't hate anyone. Would you want this next door to you?

Agreed. This neighborhood is experiencing a resurgence and plopping this in the middle of what generally is a residential area is going to decrease property values. It would be more appropriate along Myrtle or in a similar commercial area.

Drug Treatment facilities are big money makers. Nothing whatsoever to do with helping addicts, the primary motivator here is cash pure and simple.

Ridgewood has been a hotspot for drugs since the late 60's.
When I went to JHS-93 in the 70's Angel Dust, Pot and Coke was in every park and bar.
Many of these people now have teenagers still do it, no program is gonna stop them by now.

For example: After 30 years 2 characters I know (Bug and Pearl) are still hanging out weeding and drinking beer up near the Fresh Pond M train station's.
Bug (now a self proclaimed preacher and philosopher) will give you a blessing for $2

Maybe they could use a treatment center in Druglaston, but the users in that nabe are mostly well-off enough to not become social burdens.

To the person who said Ridgewood is experiencing a resurgance... how much are they paying you to say that? Clearly you are trying to sell houses in this neighborhood cause nobody is buying that crap... Ive lived here since 96 and I came from East NY (not exactly the nicest area) to escape all the issues I saw on a daily basis and Ridgewood aside from maybe late 90s is at its worst right now. If you walk down Fresh Pond Rd from 68th ave down to Metro youd be surprised at the thugs you see down there. FYI Myrtle is in Ridgewood as well. Learn the neighborhood before you speak about it. Drugs, gang violence, and poverty are strong issues in this neighborhood and while I agree with Crapper that this will do more enabling than anything else, this neighborhood is not what some paint it out to be...
