Queensbridge Houses Hosts Another Murder

Normandeau Newswire

Normandeau Newswire – Queensbridge Houses is the largest public housing complex in North America. The area around Queensbridge Houses is gentrifying with fourteen luxury hotels springing up. Just a gunshot away from Queensbridge Houses, wine sells for $9.00 a glass.

Hundreds of artists studios have sprung up in the Queensbridge Houses area with a two-day open studios event the weekend of May 22-23.

One might find it hard to find anything more exciting.

How about a murder for excitement?

The early morning hours of Saturday May 22, 2010 brought another murder to Queensbridge Houses just blocks away from another recent murder at Queensbridge Houses where three people were shot.

What is unusual about the May 22 murder is that the police do not seem to be releasing any details.

All that is known is based on hearsay. Apparently two people were arguing at 40-16 12 Street. A third person intervened. That third person was shot and killed. An all too familiar memorial is now on on the sidewalk at the site of the 40-16 12 Street murder.

Hopefully the NYCPD, either the 114 Precinct or the PSA9 Housing Police Bureau will enlighten the tenants.

Don't count on the NYPD to do anything to help New Yorkers. They are scum.

Some of Queensbridge buildings should be closed and sold to developers especially nearest the water. The proceeds could be used as vouchers to pay for housing in the private sector or relocated to new condo towers that have defaulted. Why does it appear that all public housing built in the past is on the waterfront? Look at the public housing on Roosevelt Island, Coney Island, Second Ave on the East River, Housing on the Westside in Chelsea and at Rockaway beach?

Why was public housing built next to the water....

simple...it was white peoples housing , and they never intended it to be overrun by niggers...

The buildings were built on the waterfront in the old days because before the present treatment plants were built, the river smelled like an open sewer, not someplace where you would like to live.

The projects were never built as "white people" housing, they were built to replace run-down tenements and rigorous inspections to insure good housekeeping and sanitary practices were part of screening tenants.

I have spoken to old timers who told me what an honor it was to be given a project apartment in the old days.

Although I have no racial ax to grind and believe in the adage, "It takes all kinds," sometimes poverty does result from unwise decisions and practices.

People who are disturbed, violent, duplicitous and so forth often have time gaining the trust and respect of others and the jobs and income that follow.

I am sure the tenants already know a hell of alot more about this than the cops do. But since they adhere so strongly to the, "don't snitch" mentality, the shootings and stabbings will just keep going on in their community.

Can't we destroy all public housing? They're so ugly!! (just like the tenants!)

Queensbridge is on borrowed time sitting on prime real estate, 2 stops from Manhattan on the water front. There is no way the powers that be will continue to allow poor black people to occupy such coveted space.

i have lived in queensbridge all 38 years of my life and i am not poor, an ex-convict, on welfare, selling drugs or a prostitute. have raised my daughter here and she is a very well brought up young lady. it does not have to be the "projects" for the place to be chaotic. there are bad people everywhere. these comments are from the ignorant people on the outside looking in. my point is dont judge all for a few rotten apples.

From NYC-Longtimer: I also grew up in the projects, I went on to a top tiered college, a career in finance, and am living happily as a middle-class New Yorker. So, I agree with the comment that you really shouldn't judge a whole group of people because of a few rotten apples. Also, the NYPD can only act as far as the law allows them to. To group the whole of the NYPD because of a few rotten apples is another case of misjudgement. May I suggest that you go out and experience life and people?

Right next door to all those hotels and Suna's Silvercup.

Thousands of easy marks.

Whoo-hoo!

Great place to plunk down a big wad of cash, no?

Having also been raised in the projects (Astoria) and being able to describe myself like the above, I can say we are the exception and not the rule. There are more than a few rotten apples. In fact, the rotten apples would say we're the rotten apples.

I CANT BELIEVE THE IGNORANCE OF YOU PEOPLE. BLACK OR WHITE, RICH OR POOR AREN'T WE ALL THE SAME IN GOD'S EYES! DON'T YOU BELIEVE IN COMMON DECENCY NO MATTER THE SITUATION. I HAVE FAMILY AND FRIENDS THAT COME FROM THIS PROJECTS AND MOST OF THE PEOPLE I KNOW ARE TRYING THERE BEST TO BECOME PRODUCTIVE IN THIS SOCIETY.

This comment comes 2+ years after the subject matter nonetheless, the systemic issue still continues on and it will continue on until we are no more. I guess it was never meant for wealthy/poor/classism/under priviledge/healthy/sick to co-exist together. And we say we're the greatest country in the world! How dare us! The hatred and biogotry in the U.S. has NEVER changed, no matter what laws where created to maintain certain individuals.

Queensbridge won't be torn down. At least not for a long time. Nowadays, in this economy, the demand for affordable housing is so high, that thousands of people are applying for public housing throughout NYC.

I lived in QB for 7 years (40-15 Vernon)and my building was filled with people who went to work everyday, you had a few people who were on P.A but the majority of people in my building werent. This notion that all projects are filled with lazy people and violent criminals is just dumb. Last time I checked Adam Lanza didn't grow up in the projects.
