Crappification of the 26th Ward Bank Building

Sometimes you take a wrong turn and end up on a detour that takes you right past some major league crap. That's what happened when I ended up on Atlantic Avenue at the corner of Georgia Ave in Brooklyn.

For a good cry, click here to see what this building used to look like in the 20th Century B.C. (before crappification).

Why not check and see what the building looked like in 1990. ANY development in that neighborhood is good development.

Yes, I provided a link to photos that show it in the 1980s and 1990s. It was a beautiful building back then as well even though it needed work. It certainly didn't need this.

"ANY development in that neighborhood is good development."

Really misguided statement. A slum with a piece of crap in it is still a slum.

Ouch. The building could have been restored as a neighborhood signature. At first I thought they added to a one-story building and figured such development was better than erasure. But man, really, ouch.

Why doesn't the entire architectural world agree not to overcharge to make something classic in the name of beauty and culture? Then maybe building beautes such as the Ward building would become commonplace again..Remember the "city beautiful" project of the turn of the century. Enough of shoeboxes already..

I think I just vomited a little at the sight of that.
