Parkside Group representing Hooters

From the Queens Chronicle:

While college students from nearby St. John’s University may welcome it, some residents of Fresh Meadows are concerned about the upcoming opening of a Hooters in their community.

According to James Gallagher, president of the Fresh Meadows Homeowners Civic Association, the beach-themed bar and grill is set to open soon at the former site of the Future Diner off the Horace Harding Expressway. “It seems like an odd fit for the neighborhood,” Gallagher said.

The area is filled with well-kept, high-rise apartment buildings with a movie theater on one side of the restaurant and a shopping center featuring Kohl’s department store on the other side. “Hooters seems like it’s more for truckers, not for a residential community,” Gallagher said. “But the owner appears to be community-oriented and that could be helpful.”

A spokesperson from Hooters corporate headquarters in Atlanta, Ga. did not return calls on the opening. Nor did the Parkside Group, a lobbyist firm that represents unions, political candidates and businesses, including the Queens Hooters, which will be the first one in the borough.

Unions, political candidates and Hooters. The jokes almost write themselves.

The Future Diner is where then-candidate Bill Clinton appeared in 1991 and later as elected President. All of Queens politiciandom showed up to glad-hand the Great Stainmaker.

Definitely an appropriate venue for a Hooters, nicht wahr? Mebbe they can "erect" a plaque in his honor when he shows up for the ribbon-cutting?

I am amazed that Hooters is still in business--it seems so yesterday. I guess pretty girls wearing nothing will never go out of style.

These people have to chill out and stop being so stiff! Hooters is not some seedy dive place. It is fine and usually fun.

No. I won't. It's fun and if you don't like it, don't go.

please bring hooter's to fresh meadows...i need a good place to watch UFC

Girls in tight shirts shoving their voluptuous breasts in my face while serving me a burger is not fun! At least not to me. It's vulgar.
Yeah, that's right. I said it.

the crone from the tenant's board thinks it'll "denigrate women"... of course she's never been to one she admits, therefore she has to know what she's talking about.

Hooters on 56th in midtown has some of the best Buffalo wings in the city! Really, what's the big deal? Though moderate titilation (i.e. girls in tight shirts playing hoola-hoops, oh no, the moral turpitude!) plays a role in the business, Hooters can be found in malls and other family-friendly locales throughout the nation.

Usually, I'm anti-box restaurants, but unfortunately there's a dearth of good, non-old guy sports bars in Queens. Hooters will deliver a decent product that is in short supply here.

What's that? Big boobs?

Yes, you're right. Queens really needs this place.

NOT.

Then, again, don't go. you are starting to sound a lot like a very unpopular mayor.

italian girl seems to have some sort of big boob obsession.
You make it sound like a strip club. It's a sports bar/casual dining place, with good bar food, a fun atmosphere, and yes, girls with tight shirts and shorts. Really, it's no big deal.

Anonymous said...

Now public school girls in Queens will have something to aspire to since their education is so damn shitty.

Anonymous said...

big boob obessession? No, I don't think so.
I just have a problem with a restaurant that objectifies women. Why is that so bad? Even the name is insulting. When I bite into my burger and fries, I do not want to be in the vicinity of scantily clad girls(or guys for that matter). It's inappropriate. But of course if I'm having this argument with a blog full of guys, there's no doubt I lose.

I hope private property rights haven't become so denigrated that they are subservient to the wishes of curmudgeons and cheap seat moralists like Italian Girl.

I agree, after this anti-Hooters campaign, we seriously need to go after the people who eat at the beach. This practice must stop now!!!

Actually I meant to clarify before.

Beach and boobs, okay

Family restaurant and boobs, not okay

Matt said...

I like tits just as much as anyone else but Id rather see a place like this in someone elses neighborhood. Not mine.

RC said...

Not to sound like a Hooters flunky but: titilation may lure some in, but good wings, burgers and big TV's will keep 'em coming.

I wouldn't necessarily bring my kid to Hooter's, but I wouldn't bring him into into First Edition or O'Neill's either. In fact, I'd be a little more concerned with the (political) whoring that goes on in that establishment there in Maspeth than what the prudes think would go on in a Hooter's.

Well, you always have an option not to bring your family into Hooters. You dont have the same option to prevent your children from being subjected to thongs at a public beach.

Familywise, you are a lot safer at Hooters.

Maybe the solution is you dont take your kids to either.

Can I have "a shake" with those fries?

While Hooters is tacky and not to my taste, it seems to be a well-run outfit that appeals primarily to men in their 20's. We have worse problems in Queens than them. So far as I know, no drug dealing, loan-sharking, fencing or under-aged drinking is going on there. We should be more aware of those quiet, understated criminal and political dives that are wrecking us all.

italian girl - weren't you the one defending the Catholic Church earlier? You support an organization that institutionalizes inferior status for women, but now you are all against "objectifying"?
As for scantily clad - they are not wearing bikinis or lingerie. Have you ever been to a W bar? Are tight, short dresses with low necklines ok but tight shirts and shorts are not?

Anonymous said...

Anon:

I never defended the Catholic Church. I believe many of their "rules" are old and need to be revised. I am not a practicing Catholic and I haven't seen the inside of a church in YEARS.

As for this argument. Again, I don't think I can win this one talking to a bunch og guys. But I'll give you a scenario. Let's suppose I teach not too far from Hooters. The teachers want to take the classes on a walking trip to a restaurant. The only restaurant is a Hooters. Likely scenario: "Ms. Italian Girl, Ms. Italian Girl, what does Hooters mean?"

How should I respond?

Ant said...

Ahhh, the tired old, 'where can I take my kids on a class trip to a restaurant argument'. So, you dont want a Hooters because it will inevitably lead to children having boobs thrust into their lil faces.

You dont lose your arguments because you are outnumbered. You lose because your arguments are built on a foundation of pixie stix.

Whats wrong with Hooters. The gurls are all cute, have health cards, pay taxes and are well covered ?
I treadmil with some at the Gym and go to NASCAR and Paintball. Many are moms !!!

The food is greazy fried and salted crap, but yeah I could see how teachers wouldnt see the real issue.

Personally I no longer eat out unless I could see the kitchen and its staff like a Chinese joint.
I usually Get Chicken or eggplant & Garlic sauce.

Dont the 14-15 years old today already have all the 25+ year old hot teachers ?

There is an incident on Drudge report every 2 weeks.
I dated the girls gym teacher when I was 15 all the guys were crazy for her but I could brag about it.

Nope. We see the issue just fine. It's the guys that don't see the issue.

Imagine if we had a restaurant that demeaned male minority members as a class and used an insulting premise as a theme. On the other hand, these good looking young waitresses will probably earn more money than each sexist pig who contributed to this blog. Here's hoping that Hooter waitresses put themselves through college and professional school based on the tip $$ you porkers leave them.

My old gal Gina worked at Hooters (I met her there) She made some serious $$ had a new car and swanky place in Bayside right off the strip by Numero Uno Pizza.

Sadly she used the $$ become a school teacher and was brainwashed into this ---well I dont know what to call it.

---It was like watching an awful 50s monster movie where this pearly seashell turns into squalky wining worm in pants.
AKA:
"The Monster That Challanged The World"

HOW ABOUT MORE HOOTERS LESS BUKHARIAN FORTS ?

I think you mean Pizzeria Uno. And that is a nice area. Congested but nice. It's also right across the street from Tony Avella's office.

So what are you saying? It's more respectable working ar Hooters than working as a teacher?
Come on, Joe. Say it ain't so!

When will you guys get it through your thick skulls? - a place like that objectifies girls. Period. Maybe not as badly as a strip club or whorehouse but it still does. You're going there for a burger and boobs. Am I right?
How would you like it if your daughter wanted to work there? I know my dad would have thrown me out of the house.

You "old gal"???

Now I’m beginning to think all feminists and the people complaining are a mob of jealou hairy Queens lesbians who wouldn’t fit the bill.

Hats off to Hooters !

So now I'm a hairy lesbian?
Here's a tidbit, Joe. I would be hired at Hooters in a heartbeat! But I would never stoop that low. I have too much respect for myself. I have more to offer society than just my body.

OMG. "italiangirl.."
I'm a chick or "woman" rather, whom doesn't whore around and such, yet I LOVE Hooters and I RESPECT those women.
I think you're the one with the problem of not respecting women.
hahah.
No one that I know goes there for boobs. Most people go there for the novelty, for the fact that its almost taboo even.
The place is NOT PRETENSIOUS. And thats great.
In "guyland" where they "objectify women," most guys watch enough porn to be desensitized to BOOBS anyway. Me, I love the wings and its a fun place.
I've never seen customers oogle the waitresses or disrespect them.
The women are friendly and you're seated with a smile, no one's in there "slappin A**ses."
As my boyfriend says, its just a good ol' slice of americana. I was the one to get him into going there. He's strangely not into "objectfying women," yet he enjoys hooters wings now as much as I do.
Anyone who's got a problem with hooters coming to their town is really just feelin kind of threatened, it's really not that big of a deal in actuality.
I've known of Hooters restaurants since I was little and it never became an issue that some teacher had to explain to me, nor was it anything that I'd become "traumatized" about.

TO HOOTERS: ROCK ON!!

Well, I oppose hooters in fresh meadows because of the crowd it will attract. Its bad enough that Applebees attracts a pretty stupid idiotic crowd that often hangs out in front of the entrance-you know who are! Being off the LIE imagine the crowd it will attract now.

Anonymous said...

The owner is lucky that no one seems to care enough to challenge them. Regardless of being pro or against Hooters they pulled some stunts applying for liquor license that makes it clear they didn't want the people living nearby to know about this until it was too late. Personally I don't think they're going to be successful in this location and doubt they'll stay open more then 1 year.
