Ulrich opponent appeared in racist, misogynistic, anti-cop rap videos

Councilman Eric Ulrich's campaign today released a video denouncing Mike Scala for his racist and sexist rap lyrics. The video follows news that Mike Scala or his supporters circulated a racially charged flyer in the Democratic Primary.

Scala's songs include racist lines such as "Me and rap go together like Spanish chicks and strollers" and lyrics that promote violence against police officers such as "Every time these cops talk, I wanna break their jawbone."



Mike Scala was endorsed by the Queens Machine. This makes somewhat of a trifecta - Elizabeth Crowley, who has a 16 year history of homophobia and is okay with her campaign workers verbally abusing women was also endorsed by the Joe Crowley clan. And let's not forget that an indictment didn't get in the way of them endorsing Ruben Wills. And they love Bill de Blasio as well...

Christmas in Hollis

Darryl McDaniels, part of Run-D.M.C., returned to Hollis, Queens during Christmas time with a gift for kids — and he said it was better than toys.

McDaniels said he's trying to push them to explore the creative side of their minds.

"Not everyone has to be a baller it's okay to play piano or study ballet," McDaniels said.

"That was my house over there. I use to hop the fence and come over hear to rap on the corner," McDainels said while he walked through the streets of Hollis, where the creativity all began for him.

The town now has a mural on a wall at 198th Street and Hollis Avenue dedicated to his musical achievements.

McDaniels, who's now a comic book creator, is making it his mission to mentor kids. He spent Tuesday at Queens Central Library with community kids and families. He had one important lesson for them — to read as much as you can and expand their skills to be competitive adults.

The Flushing-raised rapper shows off his time on his global tour with Eminem, where he dove off yachts in New Zealand and cooked sausages in South Africa.

But his favorite spots are closer to home.

Bronson dines at Roberta's in Bushwick, which sources say will open a pop-up location in Rockaway Beach this summer.

And he ends up at Eddie's Sweet Shop in Forest Hills, which he first visited in junior high school and goes to "to feel like a child again."

"Bottom line is you could be anywhere in this f---ing earth, but I'm here — Metropolitan, Queens, New York, Forest Hills, Eddie's Sweet Shop," he said.

After taking a sip of a black-and-white malted milkshake, he uses his signature phrase:
"F---, that's delicious."

He said those words help describe a feeling when you eat something that's too good to describe.

"You just have to curse and be vulgar and violent about what's happening," he said.

Crowley clams up on Knockdown Center

The British-born, Sri Lankan-raised M.I.A., whose real name is Mathangi Arulpragasam, burst onto the scene with her Grammy-nominated mega-hit “Paper Planes” in 2008.
Since then, her music has been critically acclaimed but has also spawned controversy.

The short film that accompanied her 2010 hit single “Born Free” depicts a mock genocide against red-haired people, even featuring a scene where a child is brutally shot in the head and killed.

Det. Thomas Bell of the 104th Precinct said there will be a police presence in the area during the shows, as well.

“We’re going to be out there monitoring everything,” Bell said. “We’ll be there.”

What fine family entertainment! I have to say that this is a pretty good article from the Chronicle about what's going on in Maspeth at the Knockdown Center. However, the reporter omits the fact that the "controversial rapper" is best known for flipping America the bird during the Superbowl and is currently in court fighting a $16.6M fine for the stunt imposed by the NFL.

But the kicker is:

When contacted by the Chronicle, a spokesman for Councilwoman Elizabeth Crowley (D-Middle Village) said she had no comment on the matter.

What's wrong, Liz? What happened to the good jobs in the film industry that you said were going to happen here? Isn't it great that the NYPD's already limited police manpower will be going toward babysitting thousands of non-residents who have issues controlling themselves while your constituents will have to wait for responses? Crowley's taken a page from M.I.A.'s handbook and flipped Maspeth the bird.

Here's a shot of one of the the Knockdown Center's petitions. You'll notice not one Maspeth address on it. You'll also notice there's no mention of a liquor license to serve alcohol to up to 5,000 people at a time. If you feel it necessary to hide your intentions from your petitioners, what does that say? They don't need a petition to open an as-of-right arts center.

Rap concert has cops concerned

Superstar rapper 50 Cent is secretly planning to stage a free concert in a schoolyard near the Queens projects where he grew up, and where he was nearly fatally shot -- sparking a wave of fear in the community and prompting cops to prepare for the worst.

"We can't control the area," warned one law-enforcement source, noting that the performance on the grounds of PS 40 in Jamaica will be part of "an outdoor event -- people could walk in from anywhere."

"Someone's gonna try to make a name for themselves," another worried source added. "They're gonna take a shot at him, and they're either gonna hit him or they're gonna miss him and hit some poor, innocent kid or grandmother."

The sources said an army of cops is planning to shut down a massive, 20-block area around the South Jamaica Houses for the "surprise" Aug. 30 concert, which is expected to draw about 10,000 people.

Fitty, who is scheduled to perform at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey the night before, is set to make at an appearance at the neighborhood's "Family Day" on the school's grounds at around 5:30 p.m. He plans to bring celebrity pals with him, the sources said.

However, Bloomberg swears 50 Cent will not perform.
