 As you can see, this lamppost has really tied one on. Some next level engineering, this shit. What you cannot see: an electrical cable straddling Baltic: dangling so tantalizing low it grazed a number of passing trucks, buses and the like. That’s something fun waiting to happen.

Yeah, this is some good street maintenance and safety measure here by your city that's straight from the movie Idiocracy.

Stop posting illegal signs!

We were walking around Juniper Park in Middle Village yesterday (9/27/15) and noticed multiple postings of flyers on the lamp posts and utility poles. There were ones for puppy sales, free chinchillas, yard sales and OctoberFest.

They are littering (illegally by the way) with these postings. The attached was for an Octoberfest at a nearby Church. There were literally over 20 of these flyers posted around the park. We noticed a few concerned people taking some down, but shouldn’t the Parks Department be on top of this?

I understand the need to promote these type of events, but there are neighborhood community bulletin boards (Silverbarn, Artis Pharmacy, Met Foods). Why litter our neighborhoods, especially an event that’s 2 weeks away!

If people continue to post these flyers, our street lamp posts will look like the attached image!

New lampposts for Glendale

Dozens of new lampposts will line parts of Glendale, Queens, after a more than decade-long push to beautify the area, state Sen. Joseph Addabbo Jr. said Monday.

“Our city streets are a constant reminder of our history, but sometimes they need a little upgrade,” Addabbo (D-Queens) said.

The 44 new "Type F" lampposts with teardrop light fixtures will be installed along five avenues between Woodhaven Blvd. and Union Turnpike in the spring.

The project was conceived by resident Tom Pappas and former state Sen. Serphin Maltese.

So the Argentos move in and suddenly the area gets beautified?

Another hot sheets motel in Elmhurst

Miss Heather reveals that a Motel Queen has opened in Elmhurst. I wonder if this is part of the Queen Motel chain that was featured on QC last year, or if they just moved. Nice to see the lamppost advertising campaign is ongoing. I guess some things aren't affected by the economy...

Brooklyn Heights spending stimulus money on lampposts

Let there be light - expensive light - on the streets of Brooklyn Heights, some locals say.

The upscale neighborhood is getting 65 new streetlamps this fall at $10,000 a pop - paid for with federal stimulus money.

But they're not just any run-of-the-mill streetlamps; these will be fashioned with filigreed bishop's crooks to make them look like antique streetlamps.

And, they cost three times as much as the perfectly functional lights they're replacing.

"I'm not going to apologize for it," said Brooklyn Heights Association President Judy Stanton, who helped broker the $650,000 deal. "I think it's a valid use of stimulus money."

Councilman David Yassky (D-Brooklyn Heights) is responsible for earmarking $250,000 of the money for retro lamps to be installed by the city Department of Transportation, and Rep. Nydia Velazquez (D-Brooklyn) has promised another $400,000 by the fall.

In all, the Brooklyn Heights Association hopes to replace 229 neighborhood lights at a total cost of $2.7 million.
