Litmus Test Garden

NY Post

They’re planting hate.

A community garden in Ridgewood, Queens, has morphed into a group of pro-Palestinian green thumbs who grow “Poppies for Palestine” and host “Free Palestine” poster making events.

Sara Schraeter-Mowers told The Post she can’t remember the last time she felt welcome in her own neighborhood, where she’s lived for 18 years.

She blamed the Sunset Community Garden, in part, for “creating an environment” in Ridgewood “that’s very hostile towards me and my family.”

Jewish Ridgewood residents are now afraid to go dig in the dirt at the garden, said Schraeter-Mowers, a teacher whose cousin was killed at the Nova Festival massacre on Oct. 7.

Schraeter-Mowers said she was profoundly offended by a July 28 post to the garden’s Instagram page, showing a painting that had been created during the “Free Palestine” arts and crafts event.

“They’re hosting events specifically designed to promote hatred toward Jewish people,” Schraeter-Mowers said.

“They don’t care that they’re alienating certain members of the community, even while putting on the mask of being inclusive.”

“I’d be safer in my home country [of Israel] than I am here,” Schraeter-Mowers added.

“I basically feel like we’re not allowed to be part of the community. I understand they’re trying to ensure people aren’t being discriminated against, but in doing so, they’re discriminating against an entire population in your community.”

Steph Herold’s Instagram post accused the garden’s heads of pushing “out every Jew in the neighborhood who doesn’t conform to your narrow view of acceptable political opinion on Israel.”

In June, the group’s “community agreements” were first posted to the social media platform, and later updated in August.

They’re essentially 10 separate, brevity-challenged pledges all prospective members must make prior to joining the community garden.

One agreement required members to express “solidarity with the oppressed and marginalized people in our own neighborhood and across the globe, especially Palestine, Congo, Sudan, Hawaii,” and Puerto Rico, “as well as with the land and water protectors globally. Active genocides, ecocide, the rise in climate disaster and refugees, victims of class warfare, and others are a direct cause for action in our collective liberation against human rights and environmental justice violations.”

The passive agressive (Freud called them anal aggressive) personality dominant in the middle east is like that. They perpetually snipe lies and see everything from their side making themselves always look like victims. They will speak softly and almos cry to make you feel sorry for you while they are robbing and raping you. DOn't forget Muhammad had a monopoly on hijacking caravans during Ramadan. The desert bandits made their living from ransom, kidnapping travellers and each others families. For them, this is morality. But you also have to appreciate the role opium and hasish play in this. The thug who took Constantinople died of a burst gut, constipated from too much opium. The word assassin is cognate with opium. Unfortunately the disease has spread to the Caribbean. I worked with many fine Mexicans and Haitans over the years but the drugs have made those areas into savage lands. Tell that to all those drug legalizers. Most of my friends don't want to go back. They used to only be afraid of going home and the water poisoning their babies, now worse. They now know to take drugs to get their courage up to kill someone and then they tell the cops the drugs did it, don't blame me. We need to eliminate mitigation excuses. When you take a drug, you know what you might do, so if you get into an accident and kill someone, you should hang. THat should motivate you to get drug treatment. It is no acident the greatest generation were born under prohibition.

Israelis have been stealing Palestinian homes and terrorizing Palestinians since 1948. Now they label anyone who supports the Palestinian cause as being "hateful". What a joke.

What on earth does solidarity with any of those countries have to do with gardening? Do you now have to check your political affiliations before you dig up daisies? Gardening is the sort of hobby which is supposed to be peaceful and relaxing, and some brain-deformed people have ruined it for others. What a shame. Those signs need to be ripped down!

I’m sure that the local anti-Palestinian bigots and AIPAC owned politicians will cry "anti semitism", and have the place shut down and renamed to something more appropriate like, "genocide gardens" or "this is our garden because it was given to us by some Bronze Age sky goblin".

Rip 'em down, then!

Right, Achmed. Now please read an actual history book instead of cutting and pasting propaganda.

Who murdered 1200 Israelis at a music festival and took nearly 300 hostages? You misuse your favorite "Nazi" label.

Community Gardens are not hot beds of mental health - they're merely tools of the real estate developers -for gentrification to trick potential home buyers into thinking there is a community.the most insane and toxic people get mixed up with "community" gardens, rising to leadership dictator positions. Remember Pol Pot? Yes - please do free Gaza -from Hamas

Remembering Rodney King who asked "Can we all get along?". May he Rest in Peace, Amen . Pax Et Bonum

Very true. Unfortunately, US media, for the most part, is owned by pro-Israel bigots. Those who control the news set US policy.

Who stole Palestinian homes and terrorized Palestinians for 76 years? European colonists, with a lot of help from the US and UK. The victims of the holocaust became just like their tormentors, Nazis.

Israelis and their backers like to pretend that history began on 10/7/2023, ignoring 76 years of terrorism and land thieving inflicted upon Palestinians for 76 years. They also ignore the fact that the IDF probably killed as many if not more Israelis on that day as Hamas.

Rodney King was very drunk when all that went down. He ended up in swimming pool, facedown, his loving new girlfriend didn't call the police until the next morning.

Swimming pools behind the house are always a bad idea. Rodney learned the hard way.
